    If she was mine the 1st thing i would do is take the HDD out and put it into another computer and run the drive as a slave and back up all that needs to be backed up
    And if you are lucky the other computer will do a scan disk on your drive and even get her going again

    Just un plug your cd rom from the good computer and plug your old HDD in to that cable and boot her up
    If it doesn't show up then go into your bios and change it :

    Have you backed up all the stuff you need?
    You should fine Scan Disk in XP

    How to Scan Disk in Win XP

    * Press the <Start> button.
    * Select <My Computer>.
    * Under Hard Disk Drives highlight the disk which you want to scan.
    * Open the <File> menu and choose <Properties>
    * Open the <Tools> tab.
    * Click the <Check Now...> button.

    Good luck mate

    Are you putting the bad HDD into your good PC as a slave and just booting your good computer up as normal just so you can back up your info of the bad HDD ???

    ya could always put it in USB ext case .. recover all goodies off it ... format it ...then chuck back in pc and reinstall OS ....

    I turn my PC on, it displays some information on screen and then goes into an ATI screen, this I presume is my onboard graphics? upto this point this is normal. Next thing that happens is that the PC makes a beep, the 3 lights on the keyboard flash and the screen is stuck on the ATI screen
