    Default Alarm System Self Monitoring

    Hi guys

I a have a client (friend) that wants me to upgrade his old DSC alarm system, to a newer type so that he can self monitor. He is in the process of getting NBN to his house and get rid of his pstn line. Probably doesnt want to get a sim plan so I was thinking of some sort of ethernet module that can send him notifications

    Thoughts, suggestions?

He make sure his insurance is up to date...

    Considerations:
How reliable is his Internet connection? Would it withstand a line being cut?
How certain is he that he would receive any message generated by the alarm AND be able to follow it up appropriately?

Hint: Calling the cops and saying "Oh hi, I just got a message from my alarm system" will not result in a response under the national guidelines.

Doing business with friends in a risk environment is always fraught however you certainly wouldn't be doing your friend any favours leading him down this path.

Thanks downunderdan. My friend is aware of the security implications of this type of monitoring as we have discussed it. He currently doesn’t have any monitoring so this is actually a step up for him. Ive told him that for example, an email message, may not always work or could take a while to show on his phone. This is not a concern and his insurance is not dependant on him having a monitored alarm system.
He’s more liking the “techy” benefits like being able to see the status, or remote arm etc

Have a look at the Bosch 2000/3000 with ip module using RSC+ app
or Hills Reliance and Comnav using UltraConnect app

Hills just started selling there new panels Reliance xr & xr pro.

Basically an Reliance panel with comnav & wireless kit built and some added zwave features.

downside is they're trying to lock gsm to there product only and to only go through there control room..
*edit: But as a self monitored would be fine. And if he's techy he can spend more later to control his lights though the alarm :P
