Man we get pumped in the ass on new car prices here!

I sometimes wonder if it's to protect the secondhand market?
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

Basic price of an xlt Ranger in Germany $34,000 in Aussie $56,000. Evidently they don't sell too many there because the four wheel drive tracks are sealed

You really have to wonder why we still have the luxury car tax as well, after all, it was introduced to protect our local car manufacturing industry which no longer exists.

Having said that, no government will give it up with the looming loss of income when electric cars start getting taken up large scale. It will then likely go to a user pay system on our roads.

It amazes me the amount of rorts that the media simply dont chase and hound governments about. Daniel Andrews is seemingly untouchable in Victoria. When the Ballieu Government introduced a $35 registration levy in 2012 to update the Vicroads computer system, Labor screamed blue murder about it. The project was abandoned 3 years later. So of course you would expect the Labor Andrew's Government who were elected in 2014 to immediately dump it right ?

No, they have simply kept pocketing the money. Outright theft. Yet no one seems to care. Work out how many cars you have had in the period 2012 to now and work it out. A single car alone would be $245........, we have 2 so thats a $500 theft.

It's just a pimped out navara...

For that money I would buy a hemi powered ram 1500 or a v6 ecodiesel....

Either way, when it comes to utes, the car makers are loving Australia as sales are going through the roof for them.

    You are correct Admin
I remember the Luxury Car threshold and what its intention was, yet a 79 series or 200 series Landcruiser, aka Mums Taxi is nearly $100K and $120K if you want the top of the range.
These are just basic work cars to many or family cars.

Yet they are treated like they bought a BMW 5 series

But these dual cabs and the prices they ask is just crazy
I wonder how new vehicle sales are going?

Then consider, many buy a $60K dual cab, then spend another $20K on with suspension, wheels, tyres, bar work, snorkels, alloy canopies with gull wing doors, draws, extra fuel tanks, driving lights and comms....

The old Falcoon wagon and trailer when you need is looking mighty affordable

Just a navara Chassis/ Running gear with an MB body. No Doubt with all sorts of over the top modern MB complication and needless bullshit features thrown in.
I like merc, had a few but the old W123's were in fact a far better built and engineered car than the GLA I drive ( when I have to ) now.
If the GLA didn't have the ability to change the colour of the floor lights, I wouldn't really be concerned or miss it or 10 other stupid things the car has. I can only imagine what the Ute is loaded with. Of course had the thing not had to go back with the headlight filling up with water or the stitching in the rarely say on back seat coming undone so the foam was poking out, that would have been appreciated.

I have a couple of mates that would pay those prices and not blink. One mate has had top of the Line HSV wagons as his " Company" car for years with all his crap in the back. Now he can't get them and the one he has is over due, he'd pay that for a replacement just for the tax write off. To him the price would be an advantage. It's all to do with how the accountant twists and writes it off against tax, the actual price has little to do with things when they are leased anyway.

I do wonder which way gubbermints will jump if electric's become as popular as assumed.
My bets would be to go with the NZ system of prepaying for mileage credits or rego will simply become astronomical. The gubbermint make more out of fuel than anyone else atm. The billions from fuel excise will have to be made up other ways.

Those that think electric will be cheaper than IC cars to run overall are seriously deluding themselves but most of the EV proponents I have come across go out of their way to convince themselves and everyone else of electric Rainbows and unicorns.

Even with the bling it still looks like a crappy Navara.
