Default SBS bringing back World Movies on July 1

SBS will be removing the SD version of SBS Viceland on 17 June to make way for SBS World News HD launch on 1 July. The new channel will be the first Aussie channel in MPEG-4 HD only without an MPEG-2 simulcast. No word yet on Foxtel carriage.

    30. SBS HD
    31. SBS Viceland HD
    32. SBS World Movies HD
    33. SBS Food
    34. NITV

It certainly signals the beginning of the end of MPEG-2 reliance. For SBS to be so confident they won't need an MPEG-2 simulcast of Viceland says a lot! Earlier this year, Seven Queensland showed we are inching towards eradication of MPEG-2. They swapped their primary service from MPEG-2 SD to MPEG-2 HD without bothering with an SD simulcast. Although 7 HD Queensland is an MPEG-2 channel, it still shows that they believe the existence of SD-only MPEG-2 equipment is small. Baby steps I guess.

Thanks to commercial TV throwing more and more reality shows at us and their painful dramatic voice overs in adverts, I'm now really enjoying SBS and ABC.

Looking forward to SBS's new offering and additional options

Commercial Tv is the best advert for streaming services they've got. I only watch the news, jsut to see if the world has ended, and I missed it.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Your better than me I gave up on news long ago, all commercial TV in Australia is a total waste of electricity imo
