More spam and scam
Hi all,
Just a quick heads up to the members regarding crank calls. These are new to me and in one case cannot be blocked.
This one alleges to be of Russian descent, but I did not answer it, therefore I can't be certain of its origin

I would like to know how an invalid number can be made to ring a phone in Oz, surely it could not pass through the phone network. ??
The last number that is repeatedly ringing at all times day and night is purportedly Sydney based and a known scammer passing themselves off as "Hearing for Life". WOT A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS

The unfortunate thing here is that these scammers can spoof any number they want. Sometimes legitimate numbers.

Telstra is a conspirator and accessory to this shit.
When we moved here I didn't want the number to be listed. They said I would have to pay a fee for that. I said to charge a fee for doing nothing was unlawful and I wanted to speak to a supervisor. None available, one will ring back shortly. No call returned, and of course moving in I had other distractions. Within days I was getting marketing calls from a new, never used before Number.
Someone ought to get a class action going and sue the arse off the profiteering pricks. THEY are responsible for a lot of people loosing money because THEY made it possible for the scammers to get in touch with people.
If anyone else tried to charge someone a fee for NOT doing something it would be unlawful. When it's a gubbermint / big biz operation, they can write their own laws and get away with it.
I ditched my home phone number years ago and got a voip number with mynetphone on the Whirlpool special for $0 a year and $5 a year for a number with pay as you use calls and an ATA adapter.
Gave the new voip number to about 6 family members and close friends. Have never had a spam call on it. Rarely ever call out on it, so it costs $5 a year.
Both my mobile and my wifes have Hiya installed on them (Samsung install it and turn it on by default these days), which is great when you see an unknown number on the screen with the word Spammer underneath it.
Obviously if you have a long term home number and its getting spammed its annoying, but getting rid of mine was the best thing I ever did. I think its pretty clear that Telstra and Optus are having their numbers collected by their third world operators, where as small voip operators dont have that issue.
I might have to look into that. Really there are only 2 people that call on the land line. Wouldn't have it except need it because of the shitty internet anyway.
I was only talking to my daughter today whom pointed out that even in the little time she is at home, we get more calls from spammers than anyone else.
She is right!
Get at least one spam call a day but don't get a call everyday from people we want to talk to. I got to admit, as much as I don't answer a lot of numbers I don't know or have No number come up on the phone, the bastards do get me often. I'll run for the damn phone when I am expecting a call from a tradie or someone I am waiting to hear from and it turns out to be these mongerals. Normally I wouldn't' bother but they seem to know when I am expecting an unknown number and will get it.
Then again, if they didn't ring, whom would I be able to unload every filthy word, insult and belittlement of race, religion and every other profanity I can lay my tongue to on?
I know when the mrs is ringing even though I don't have the phone with me.
She has obviously set up a hidden camera in the bathroom because no matter what time of the day on night I plant my hairy arse on the thunderbox, she will ring.
Honestly, 8 out of 10 visits, here we go again. If she was as good on Lotto Numbers, we'd be living on the French Riviera.
They say if you are together long enough you can read each others minds but this is taking things way too far. Got to get me one of those camera detector devices off ebay or look for a hidden switch under the seat.
