    Default Satellite Dish Size Question

    Hello,

I am completely new to Satellite TV and I am wondering what size satellite dish & what receiver I would need in order to receive Asiasat 5 100.5E? I live on the Gold Coast, LyngSat suggests 125-160cm, would that be any accurate??

    Thanks

You need to be more specific about which channels/transponders listed on Lyngsat you are hoping to receive.

I want to try and receive the feeds from Asiasat 5 (maybe the Mediapro Feed). When I check lyngsat maps, in the C band Asiasat 5 Australia is in the 125cm-160cm column.

Feeds are typically much lower in power compared to direct-to-home transmissions, so it's highly likely you will need a minimum dish size of 2.3M possibly larger.

Any receiver capable of decoding DVB-S2 at 7200-3/4 8PSK will be suitable, providing the Lyngsat info is accurate, which it often isn't.

Transponders that host feeds are typically only active when there is content being sent, so you often won't see anything on those transponders until they are active.

I'd recommend checking with someone who can receive that transponder (preferably in your region) before you spend $ on something that may not be adequate.
