Cable and Satellite TV Providers in Australia
Hey everyone,
Just doing a bit of research on pay TV providers. I'm from Canada and here we have a ton of small regional TV providers. For instance, you can take a look at this Wikipedia entry () and you'll see 20+ Cable and Satellite TV providers.
However! Looking at the same entry for Australia and all I see is Foxtel and Fetch TV.
So I guess my question is: Are there other smaller/regional providers? Or is this basically it?

That's basically it. We have never had a thriving subscription TV market in Australia. All the smaller local cable providers (of which there were only a few in very select locations) have either closed shop or sided with internet streaming-based Fetch TV. Foxtel acquired the first subscription satellite provider, Galaxy TV, in the '90s and then regional satellite provider Austar in the '00s. SelecTV was an attempt at competition for Foxtel in the late '00s but went broke only a couple of years later. So now, all we are left with is Foxtel or Fetch TV. Also, Foxtel's cable network, which is only available in a limited number of metro areas, is about to be closed down. Subscribers will have to move over to satellite to keep their service.
