Default Australia post sim is useless in Italy!?

    Hi everybody,

My wife and I have been travelling through Europe for over three weeks.

Our Australia post sim was working fine in UK, Czech Republic and Switzerland. We crossed the border into Italy and voila nothing to speak of apart from fair signal wi-fi half way up a mountain in Liernia, Lake Como area.

Unfortunately for us we wanted the roaming for Venice and Rome as well. Absolutely no wi-fi reception in Milan and Venice and we presume Rome will be the same.

Unfortunately for my wife and I we have blown $47.00 of data we damn well cannot use and retrieve!

Has anybody had any similar problems to this please.

    From weary travelers in Venice.

I've always bought a Pre Paid SIM in the country
I know that seems a pain when travelling across so many boarders
I have never used a SIM card purchased in AU that has access rights in other countries.... but what a great idea (if it works)

    Try this for Italy:

If you want cheap, try the new player:

Shame, as your Aust Post SIM should be working according to their coverage maps

Good Luck with your travels Hippy 5

Looks like the Aust Post doesn't get a very good review

Well in the end......my phone settings were not correct!

All is good now - I have a lot of credit to use up in Venice and Rome.

    Thanks guys!

I'm thinking of giving this a crack. $39 for 12gb of data and all the included calls seems good. Any reason not to?

I bought a SIM from which is very similar to the Simcorner deal above except unlimited calls and txts. I bought the 12gig plan. SIM sent from Melbourne and arrived quickly. Took about 15-20mins for initial registration. Being a UK sim you have to remember to put the country prefix before the numbers you dial.
