A social media policy is written by the company and is administered by management and HR. No legislation covers it. OH&S, which is now called WHS, Work, Health and Safety is covered by legislation and administered by Safe Work (an arm of WorkCover in NSW) or the government organisation charged with it's administration in the other states and must be followed by the company or the company can/will be fined for breaches.

Been a month since this issue was raised. What was the outcome here Leroy?
I got a result just over a week ago. Apparently I made staff ie the only person I've seen or dealt with, feel threatened and I used abusive language when I had to pump up my tyre for the upteenth time instead of the manager organising to put my spare on. I now have to undertake an anger management course lol. An ex cop I know who knows me laughed and said he reckons I would have been more argumentative and frustrated. I also have a written warning on my file.
The situation has been blown out of proportion and really it's like work took the side of Jax for the sake of saving face. It is what it is and I'll do the course. Will be interesting to see what I get out of it.
.
Sounds like we are going down the road of America Leroy
What a load of BS over nothing
Someone was offended.

So in the end it had nothing to do with social media?

Thanks for the update.
If there is anything for the punters to take away it’s don’t use your private social media accounts to associate yourself in any way with your employer, as what you may consider to be a post in a ‘private’ capacity can be taken as being read as the view of your employer.

It is unbelievable you need to do a Angry Management course
You really aren't the type... what a waste of a course.
Although you might meet some real angry types while you're there....
If you've earned a Angry Management course, i'd have been locked up going on whatever scale of offended they use these days

Exactly. I've always kept things separate and even to the extent of having no company friends on my facebook. I really don't post that much publicly but unfortunately they know who I am now so I'll keep that to a minimum.
I've been told to stay away from Jax but suppose that is only in a company capacity. I don't think I'll shop there ever again anyway. Regional towns are like small towns and as big as they are you often somebody who knows somebody or you bump into the twats!

There was a Jax opened up about 18 Months ago in the country town where my father lives.
It was apparently a company owned store and they somehow got approval to open the place right directly across from the tyre place that had been in the area as long as anyone could remember.
Several people said to my father it would put the local mob out of business and my father was laughing. He said they had a great reputation in town, a long history and they had helped him out over the years and he wouldn't care if the other mob were giving tyres away, he wouldn't go there on Principal that they must have greased some palms to be allowed to set up shop right across the road in a directly competing business.
Fast forward to present day and the place is up for sale, not the old place, Jax. The new place has in fact expanded somewhat and put more people on. Dad spoke to one of the Mechanics there and he said they were worried and annoyed at first but Business has not suffered in the least and they have remained Busy. He said something everyone there noted was there never seemed to be many people at jax Even when they were run off their feet. He said they had many customers go there and then come to them and buy there. They said that was Not what any of them were expecting at all and most thought they would be looking for new jobs but just didn't happen.
He said they hadn't heard anything bad about them and they did loose some sales because they undercut them below cost but other than that, seems people preferred the place they knew.
Seemed loyalty and reputation won out after all.

So, let me get this right, Jax complained because a tyre they fitted would not hold air and you complained about it?

in a nutshell. I was expecting them to go out of their way a little more to help me because the van is my workshop. Instead it was like he wanted me to fit in with him. I'd bought 6 tyres in 12 months and after this I now need another 2 in 10k km plus another 1 for the spare as it's stuffed so 3 in total. Not sure why you wouldn't go that extra to have a regular customer.

there is a fleet manager there as well! You'd think he'd have something in place with a national retailer so we just rock up and don't have to haggle with prices. It the other state one guy is asked to get 3 quotes and submit to him and then he makes a choice. He should be doing the leg work and not wasting tech's time.
I'd organised brakes through the local Renault dealer to be done only to be told no head to Ultratune because they are cheaper. Apparently there are no after market pads and rotors so you have to go genuine anyway!! They had problems bleeding the brake system and had the van for 5 days. Now how much did that cost them?

Time to open your own business Leroy.
True freedom is the greatest gift a man can possess, yet is the one thing most easily and innocently given away, to crafty curses and binds cleverly disguised as blessings and gifts, in the pursuit of supposed achievement, status and power.
