playing media on x360 requires XBOX live to play ?

I ask this question cause my x360 getting error status code : 51-C00DF236 media update needed ... I updated day 1 when I got x360 .. been playing fine ..watching movie on it yesterday ... I heard MS shut down XBOX live for few days to do upgrade or some crap ...anyone else having same prob ?

oks here the prob I found :

You can only download the media update on one machine per account, so if your not on the machine you originally downloaded it on (say, you upgraded to an Elite), then you'll have to connect. Just like with Live Arcade games.

and here the fix :

Difference being that with those there is a work around - either using Account Management or by getting refunded MS points through the helpline.

Thinking about it, I might try downloading the file with a different live account. See if that works.

Mine is a replacement/refurb from MS. I don't remember downloading the media support, I'm just assuming I must have done so to provoke this.

EDIT: that did the trick. A different account allowed me to re-download the file with new rights for my current console. I can now play vids offline.

heh only prob while xbox live offline I can't do trick to do media update with new account (xbox live account) ...
