buy a 16~64 gig tf card download ozi copy it to tf card copy your maps to tf in a directory called maps card run ozi show it where the maps are and you are good to go. if the trial ver works then buy key $25USD.
if the memory in your phone is large then just put the maps in the phones memory.
IF you ever break your phone and get a new one just use the email address you used to buy the key and he will send you a new key for free.

Thanks eprom.......feel a little wiser now.....guess I'm just a bit of a dinosaur, but I still like to have a bit of device redundancy when heading bush.

We see so many Search and Rescues in this area, most of which could have been avoided had the lost party carried a simple, inexpensive navigation device. It has always amazed me that if you go more than 2NM offshore you are required by law to carry an epirb, but you can go blundering off into the Alpine bush without so much as a piece of string.

One of the limitations that I see with smartphones for this application is the increasing tendency for them to have non-removable batteries. At least with a handheld GPS you can carry a few spare AA's in your jacket and be good for a lot longer. Not a problem if you stay with your vehicle.....but not much chop if you're on shanks pony.

Speaking of maps....you blokes are probably aware of this site....it's one I've spent a fair bit of time on lately........the whole of NSW in 1:25000 for free in PDF.

Don't take any notice of "Geo PDF Maps are limited to five downloads per day"........nothing changes after five downloads.

Wish that I could get my Victorian 1:25000's for free in digital.

I still prefer poring over a big paper map spread out on a table, or a car bonnet, to squinting at it on a screen though

The hill i'm thinking, or that i am very interested in the accurate height of has no marker, instead it has a 62m comms tower at the highest point

    .
Is that $25USD per device then?
So if you wanted to run it on your phone and in your Android headunit and a 8" tablet, that is 3 x $25USD?

i have had a few gps units die on me but never had a problem with phone.
every one has a mobile some people are so protective of them its not funny.
i swear if i saw someone fall off a cliff with their phone they would cradle it all the way to the bottom to save it as if it was their new born child.
stand alone gps units have so may problems mainly the battery's and people don't hang on to them like a mobile phone.
i found a garmin gps at a campsite once it worked never found any phones and found a swiss army knife poked into a log next to a campfire.

Ok, now that i have looked, one might be there, there is a Datum reference point up there, hidden under a steel lid.
And behind a chain mess fence. Solar panel and Electrical box i worked in once.

One area is Mt Cowely, Vic.

This site tells me its 689m
This site tells me its 660m
This site tells me its 654m

    So a 35m discrepancy ??

    Phone: Redmi Note 4

    Tablet: Samsung Note 8

    Android Head unit: Eonon
(with external GPS antenna, works great)

Redmi Note 4 no barometer has gps
Samsung Note 8 has barometer and gps and every other sensor known to man does it order a hooker when you get a boner.
Eonon no barometer loads of memory.
install ozi first and test it before buying keys

Well i have learnt something today, a Smartphone can have a barometer!
I had no idea, it must be tiny...

Yes i purchased the Samsung Note 8 purely just for in car mapping
Best $100 i've spent... Its been great for movies on planes
    But nice when 4WDing

Mostly just used OsmAnd for offline mapping

Said this App has access to your location
Said same for Redmi Note 4....

I was hoping it would say Barometer also for the Samsung Note 8

Opened that Altimeter App on the Samsung Note 8

Notification came on screen "No Barometer available in this device"
    Will use GPS.

Very nice App, works with no fuss, gave my a height that seemed about right
I walked up and down the street, probably changing elevation 8 meters and its seemed to respond, in a laggy way.
Will take it to the ocean and check the calibration

So i guess, i'm back to a Barometer enabled device or a standalone Altimeter

find the codes to put it in test mode and see what sensors are fitted.
Samsung site says it has a barometer.
