Will 5G usher in the end of C Band ?

In passed 6 months most sits which had further upgrade carried out on their nearest Telco tower have suffered a major setback having already upgraded to a 5G filter LNB, 18 to 12 months ago and in last 6 months dropouts, pixilation have returned.

Not to mention the aerated customers.. all beyond our control.

I can report that recently progress has been made with new LNB’s and the results are quite good. The downside is the LNB bandwidth has been narrowed. TP’s below 3800MHz and above 4150MHz can not be received. Since most sits are viewing the Asiasat 5, RAI, RTP and TVE. These are all good. My site has a tower 100m away.

Using an old Satlook analogue meter. The first is Satking with the 5G filter.

Mediastar with filter blocking all signal below 3830MHz and 2nd filter blocking 4150MHz and above… The 5G intense interference harmonics effecting from the high end as well.

B52 I was having terrible 5G interfearence over the past 12 months here in SE Melbourne. Almost everything was effected(I don't have any tools to measure but I can see the quality fluctuation so I presumed it was 5G caused).
I tried the Mediastar SG5150 3.7-4.2Ghz 5G filter LNB but it didn't make any difference for me.

Due to your post I bought the Satking 3108 3.8-4.2Ghz and its improved greatly. Though I have lost the entire 3.7Ghz spectrum (and the 3.4-3.7 when I used to use a non 5g filtered LNBF).
I also bought the updated Mediastar A381 that has a range of 3.8-4.1Ghz but since I am getting good reception I think I will stay with the Satking 3108 for now.

Backer, I got same problem here in Western Suburbs, I was getting interference in 2016, on Measat 3 and Telstar 18 and Intelsat 19. I bought the Mediastar 5G back then it fix the problem momentarily.Last year it got worse,I bought a Filter from AV-Comm in Sydney for $750 late last year .It's now working well even when the plane passes it does not interfer with the signal.I found out there was only Telstra 5G back then that was beaming in my area , Now i found there are 3 providers beaming 5G in my area,Telstra,Vodaphone and TPG.. to make matter worse the built a 5G tower behind the shopping centre about 700 metres from my satellite dish..

But wouldn't the Mediastar A 381 be better being PLL it is more stable. The satkig is DRO

A381 is narrow band. Signals below 3800 and above 4150MHz are blocked, the closest you can get to defeat the 5G without breaking the bank. 80% success for Asiasat 5 Italian and Portuguese audience on 3860Mhz. For Spanish 3840Mhz being 5/6 FEC require 2dB more gain meaning a bigger dish..

Update for all you C band-ers... 4th Generation A381 Narrow Band LNB now works as good as the expensive waveguide solution. They use of newly developed Murata ceramic crystal oscillator made a difference.

Hi All

Anyone know where I can get one of these new LNB as mentioned above. My mums setup has suddenly developed 5G inference after working fine for 9 months.
We had a LNB 5G filter installed in Feb 2024, everything worked well, but just last night (28 Sept 2024) it is pixellating, scattered pics, scrambled even sometimes. Exactly like it was before the filter was installed.
So reading this message gives me hope that if I get this new LNB installed it might fix things.
Also if anyone knows a good installer who services the mid North of Melbourne (Preston) to put this filter on, as I don't have the necessary meters to ensure optimal positioning.
The last guy who did it doesn't do this stuff anymore.

Another possibility is the dish may have moved out of alignment a bit as it has been very windy.

Hmm. I wouldn't think so. We had those high winds last month (about 100 km/h) and that didn't do anything to the dish. We had good signals throughout with no issues.
The problems only started last night about 7.30pm. Although nearby neighbours with the same setup report no problems. But I really think that these new Mediaset filters will do the trick.
I realise that for the same money as a new filter/installer I could get the whole Globo TV IP setup or even a REELPLAY box but these solutions don't work well for my mum she can't handle the multiple remotes necessary and the "navigation" with the app. She's over 80 and modern tech is not for her !
We just need the simplicity of 1 Italian channel that meshes in with the Australian channels. I can't even risk changing the TV because it's a model that doesn't require switching between analogue and digital TV !

OK. Thanks to all and especially B52 for giving me the good word on a381 LNB.
I have obtained one and now I need to sort out installation.

But here is a interesting situation. Today was a warm and sunny day and now the satellite is behaving fine with high consistent signal quality levels.

The days and especially nights when it was having issues were mild coolish with dew in the air.

Could moisture be affecting the LNB to make it ineffective?

Personally, I have had more success with the SatKing 3800 LNBs for getting rid of 5G for AsiaSat 5. You need to be spot on with everything on an old dish to get a good enough signal for TVE.

For folks with clagged old c-band dishes that are beyond repair I suggest various streaming services for Portugese and Spanish. Either streaming or Mysat for Italian. Convincing older folks to use streaming is pretty hard though.

Ibotv pro (or your preferred app) with a m3u Playlist is just as easy as a sat box to use.

Set up a favourites list and away you go.

Many more channels than sat TV and way cheaper and easier in the long run, as long as you have decent internet.

IboTV and a few other apps, absolutely awesome.. However I have a few clients well into their 90th. No NBN and anything new is out of the question regardless of how easy it is to use. for them its the old sat box. and if the 20 year old box needs to be replaced that's another problem. I note the services on Ku band at 172° east Spanish and Portuguese... This operator TVplus has not encrypted them for nearly 2 years running FTA... does anybody knows what is the go with them ?
