    Hi everybody,

Where I am located at the mo we are not covered by 5G. Where the phone towers are from me is on a hill but we are not in view to the towers. If or when we get 5G here because we can't see the tower will we have less interference to C band or is a whole area covered by interference?

The guys that do have 5G degredation are all frequencies say on AsiaSat 5 wiped off or just certain frequencies?

It sounds like putting a skirt around the dish for the most part seems to work on 5G interference.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Regards.

sorry David but you will have to wait and see if your dish is not pointed at the 5g source then you should /could be ok

    Hi hinekadon.

I may be lucky! The towers are south west of us here and on the other top and slightly other side of the hill. Obviously I am pointing north and north west. I am just praying that I will still have AsiaSat 5 - 100.5E. I have a 3 m and 2.3 m mesh dishes so I am living in hope!

I live in hope that the filters and or the skirts for the dishes help the other guy's and maybe if it is a worse case scenario for me?

Thank you for maybe some positive news!

    Regards.

Only time will tell if your prayers have been heard. The 5G rollout progresses into subberbia and so you'll only know the effect of interference as and when 5G is available in your area.

If you did enough sniffing you will find the 5g is almost everywhere as no one wants to be last to exploit the bullshit rollout and that why there is the interference popping up now

Had a mate bring me his parents decoder that was pixelating on Asiasat 5.

I noticed the display not working but the power led was on.

After reading this thread I briefed him on possible 5G interference.

Luckily for him it was only a stuffed capacitor on the PSU.. simple fix.

Few weeks ago we did perform a site RF survey near my fathers 3m dish. I have no Spectrum Analyzer that goes that high in frequency so I used a PlutoSDR and GQRX application. The antenna for this test was a purposely built 1/4 wave vertical so I could sniff out close strong signals.

Well the interference signal was very obvious

Our next approach on this matter will be to conduct the same RF sniff test but in another chosen location at another spot at the other side of the house, We are hoping the house building and other building objects will attenuate the offending signal.

    Wish me luck.

just a suggestion , If it was Me I would be using a folded diapole with a reflector to give directivity and polarisation otherwise you will introduce erroneous results from reflections but good thinking there don

Yeah amen. I could be lucky as our Cband Dishes are on the other side of the offending tower + the two store house next to us should attenuate the offending signal. Wonder how far does your cband dish has to be away from the tower to be acceptable to watch Cband? The tower on the other side of the house of the dish around 600 to 900 m away and the other is about 2 to 2.5 K away possible behind the dish on the moving cband dish or at 90 deg on the fixed dish @ Intelsat 19.

Boy thats a tall order to know that 672a Just look at your dish and imagine you have a pipe going all the way to the satelite then cut the pipe down and down until you have a obtuse angle to the 5g tx thats the amount of interference that you can get in to the dish . IE a pipe cut at an angle produces a oblong / oval shape the surface area that the feed horn can see is the interference path ?

Once I had point to point interference with 4000MHz and the only way to fix it was to move the dish to the other side of the 2 story house (to use the house as a shield) and increase the dish size to 3.7m. That removed enough interference so the picture was no longer breaking up, but on the meter the signal was still bouncing from the interference by as much as 30%.

yes it is impossible to gauge the level of interference as the signal and the interference are not discriminated by your meter so its only a guess by it the best way is to use a spectrum analyser at the transmitted frequency , but they are very expensive unless you got a mate who has one , and has the time to teach you how to use it and interperate the results into plain english . Keep trying Don

For the European channels on Asiasat 5, the MS 5G LNB looks like doing a good job. Chinese channels from say 115° eastwards seems less affected by the interference, I guess it's because the dish is pointing to a higher elevation.

For me here the nearest tower is around 1.3 km and not viewable. We are on the bottom of a hill but the satellite dish will be probably pointing in that rough direction at around 110.0E but the elevation of the lnb fairly high. So me thinks may probably cop something! Anyway I will have to wait and see!?! The other tower is behind us to the SW.

    Regards and not in anticipation.

UM! what are you trying to show as this is a resultant of the signal after its been down converted , so the interference is included in the signals not discernable like this ???

Spectrum displaying the LNB L band output, showing the effect of 5G. As the header says " LNB without 5G filter "

to do what you are claiming you need this R&S FSWP google it ? lband will not tell you anything useful as it has a mixer blending the signal , you are trying to tell me you can tell the yeast from the flour after its been cooked into bread . sorry no !
