What a horrible way to start the season with the death of Charlie Whiting the FIA Formula One Race Director.
Although, maybe not for Vettel....

That is sad. Especially so as, until that point, he was in reasonable health. Not much you can do about it.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
Well, a very slow F1 season, they just seem to be getting worse and worse....
Silver car, silver car, red car red car, blue car, blue car.... Then the sell out drivers just playing midfield for cash
Anyway, Monarco this week
It just amazes me how fast the years go by now, i can almost just count the Monarco F1 races instead of the weeks
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
next week. F1 isn't what it was.....
MotoGP tonight though!! Might wheel my new KTM 1190Adv R into the lounge and sit on that

Time seems to go fast retrospectively when things are boring although while it is happening boring events appear to go on for ever.
The brain has kind of a compression algorithm for this, if I am allowed the analogy.
For some reason Monaco seems to be the I-frame but all the other frames contain little data and this creates a small file in our memory that can be replayed fast without losing much resolution.
While watching the last one in Spain I was doing something equally boring on another other PC simultaneously, decompressing and sorting audio sample files, very tedious, but together there was at least some synergy and I managed to get through both without falling asleep.
If only Hamilton would retire.

Love the analogy nomeat
Couldn't have put it better myself

One of the best interviews in F1
A current ex driver interviewing a current driver
Learnt so much about the things we don't see, inter-team issues, engineers, and driver tricks....
What a great attitude by both and mutual respect
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
i watched about 1/3. bit long and will come back to it because it's very interesting.

Vettel, making F1 interesting again!

Ok, so personally, I thought the race was excellent, many interesting battles, strategies & outcomes.
Good show by Dan & the Hulk for Renault.
The penalty for Vettel? I'm on the fence for that one, I can see both sides & the nuances either the side of the ruling as drawn.
It was amazing how many of the ex racers in the British commentary thought that the punishment outweighed the incident, even though they are British & LH fans.
Seb was out of control once he hit the grass, then slid sideways onto the track just avoiding the wall & Hamilton.
Could he have steered the car better at the rejoin? I don't think so; he was a passenger until he wasn't, then got traction & regained control. Who are we to judge in what millisecond that was.
The officials may look from a different point of view; Seb lost control & could have crashed, so rejoining in front of Lewis while out of control is considerer an unsafe rejoin/reentry to the track which has a penalty.
Should he have braked as he came back onto the track sideways, risked spinning, hitting the wall & possibly rebounding into Lewis, taking them both out.?
It will be controversially discussed for a while.
Cheers, Tiny

I've just watched the highlights
But from what i saw, Vettel 100% moved over to block Hamilton.
The way i saw the footage, he grasstracked, landed back on the track then took 2 bites of the cherry to move further right
That is 2 more steering inputs after the car was stable
I appreciate what Vettel was saying, but at no time did i see an unstable car that needed catching.
It was landed and locked in, the further steering inputs were purely tactical

Was it stable though?? I didn't think so.

Un safe return to race track regardless then
Its one or the other, so he can't get out of it.
But, he just kept moving over to block Lewis, even after Lewis backed out of it
Lets face it, Vettel made a driving error to begin with, otherwise he'd have stayed on the track.
Then he just went on his usual rant about blaming everyone and anyone instead of driving to regain the 5 seconds
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
I don't think so either.
In the after show Paul Diresta did a slow motion appraisal of how Vettel rejoined the track, side ways at 160kph with dirt & grass on his tyres & at the point where the steering wheel is turned right he showed that Vettel was correcting over-steer by counter-steering & not intentionally moving to the right. It was just the momentum of the vehicle carrying it in that direction.
He concluded that Vettel could have done no more than he did to avoid Lewis & the wall.
Lewis was smart to back out of it, as there was a good chance Vettel had enough momentum to hit the wall sideways.
Anyway the penalty stands for unsafe track re-entry & can't be appealed. AFAIK.
Cheers, Tiny

Maybe Vettel needs some all All Terrain tyres ?
Vettel "Had he gone down the inside he could have passed me"
Then in the next comment, "i had no idea he was there"
So, which is it Vettel?
Or are you now telling others drivers how they should drive their race car?
Just looked the footage again
I'm still not buying it.
Neither is Lewis's old team mate Nico Rosberg
One might also ask what about Hamilton on Ricciardo, Monaco 2016
Leaves the track, comes back on and blocks
Another good voice regarding F1

Clearly a racing incident.
Hamilton taking a huge risk by trying to pass an out of control car.
Both should be praised for avoiding a collision.
Penalty 100% UNJUST!

Vettel made the mistake
The rule is there, its pretty simple.
5 Seconds Penalty may have been a bit harsh, but it is the smallest Penalty available to the stewards. The smallest.
Then again, he almost took out the reining series leader by crowding him into the wall (out of control in Vettels words)
As for Vettel wishing Hamilton had driven up the inside, pfft, then Vettel would have just blocked that part of the track also and once again cried to mummy he had no where to go
Sounds like, when Vettel makes an error, everyone must stop what they are doing until he is ready to play again.
His childish tantrum at the end of the race was pure smoke and mirrors theatre to try and dilute what he had done.... Spoilt Child 101.
You can't blame Hamilton in anyway and i'm the first that would love to see a different winner.
It was an obvious case of Vettel being pressured the whole race then making a mistake and trying to undo that mistake by taking up the whole road.
If he wants to call he was out of control, then the penalty is default. No questions asked.
The later stages of the move he could have afforded Hamilton more room, but he choose to drive into the racing line and protect his track position....
Which i think is a fairly instinctive thing to do... Just not an allowed thing by the FAI.
An interesting fact, not one other driver for the entire weekend cut that chicane.
And its hardly like he got disqualified, he finished second and ahead of his team mate and got some good points.
Just a case of Vettel being Vettel..... Unless you go back in history and see him calling out other drivers for doing EXACTLY what he did!
