Default Google Is Fined $170 Million for Violating Children’s Privacy on YouTube

    Wow!! It's all about advertising.

Google agreed on Wednesday to pay a record $170 million fine and make changes to protect children’s privacy on YouTube, as regulators said the video site had knowingly and illegally harvested personal information from children and used it to profit by targeting them with ads.

    yeah it's trivial compared to
between the trade commission and Facebook in July over how the company collected and handled user data.
however it at least is starting to make them accountable.

Funny Tiny that you of all people started this thread.
I thought data mining was some conspiracy from "the tin hat brigade".

Yeah there is good money to grab from those kids, who's stupid parents allow them credit card access to keep them quiet.
The big deal is not just purchasing games but buying in-game credits rather than earning them to access higher levels quicker.

Funny that Google claims that Youtube doesn't have viewers under 13 when our primary schools use Youtube, which the kids obviously continue to use at home.
I also wonder what Google really does with all the information they collect from Google Classroom. I think my youngest was 8 or 9 when he had to sign up for a Google account for all this.

The Vatican is going to be clearing the cookies and browsing history on the cardinal's laptops on an hourly basis.
Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

    Nah I never said that.
I said that there is little you can do about data mining if you want to use the free information services available on the internet & since I have nothing to hide it's not something I worry about.

The reason I posted this thread is because it's good to see that the internet is getting some kind of simple policing, however I won't hold my breath on it making much of a difference from my perspective & it certainly won't change the perspective of the people that are really worried about their privacy online. That's what VPN's are for.
    Cheers, Tiny

Ummmm so your content, subscribed channels, viewing history can be shared across all your devices
To give you an endless log of what you have viewed so you can go back and find something at a later date
To have personal folders with content saved in them......

How else to you propose this task is achieved?

Plenty of Google products can be used without signing in

Are you sure about that? Have you had to submit your driver's license number to ID yourself to some organisation online:

Your an evil man trash and a credit to austech !

The tech conglomerates do as they like for the simple reason no rules were written as law when they started out years ago

It also proves the point that when there is $$ to be made these companies don't give a foook about your rights/privacy as long as they make a buck............or a few billion $

No! not online, however I did have my identity stolen about a decade ago 3 days after hiring a car at Sydney Airport & they photocopied my Drivers licence & Credit Card. I was real suspicious of that as I hadn't had that done previously with hire cars.
You'll never guess, they were Indian. Have never used that company again. Starts with Euro.
Cost me nothing but a couple of phone calls & letters, got all transactions reversed.
Wrote a post or a thread about it here, buggered if I can find it right now.

EDIT: there you go found it.
