Yep. Sure did. I’m going to revisit once I have re positioned the comma RX area of my shack.

Many years ago I used VMware. Pretty sure it had better control of host ports.

Pretty sure this is the right link. cant remember how to install, they use a .bundle file.

    EDIT..

Here's how to run the .bundle file, link below for Ubuntu..

    Hmmm well......yes I know that....

VMware may well fix your issues with serial ports etc....

Wouldn't it be worth trying ???

I use vmware to run Win10 in Mint and I never been able to access physical serial ports. Possibly due to not trying hard enough but maybe one day I'll have the need and the inclination concurrently

Edit: Just did some poking around and found answers at

    IE:
A VMware Workstation virtual machine can use up to four virtual serial ports. The virtual serial ports can be configured in several ways.

You can connect a virtual serial port to a physical serial port on the host computer.
You can connect a virtual serial port to a file on the host computer.
You can make a direct connection between two virtual machines or between a virtual machine and an application running on the host computer.
You can also select whether to connect the virtual serial port when you power on the virtual machine.
The trick is to add the serial port(s) to VMWare in settings for the guest OS so they'll be available in the removable devices list.
Tried it and it appears to work
