    +1 for this meter.

It has the list of satellites programmed, and has both signal strength and most importantly, signal quality displays.

Update - I have brought a cheap satellite meter and it should be here about Tuesday it's an SF95-DR hope it will be good enough and if I have some luck I may get a better quality
one like you guys suggest as i have a feeling this could be something that happens often.
Will keep you all updated as I progress.

If is the SK-3000 model you are talking about, read the instruction manual first and make sure you are confident you can understand how to use it, as it's a lot more complicated than what Tiny and I have recommended to you.

I couldn't seem to find the exact one you both mentioned on eBay or online the link didn't work and after searching the closest I could find was a
SK-500 Satellite TV Finder from satking at 120 dollars and was not sure if it was the same thing and looked not much for the money, thoughts?

The SK 500 is the OZ version of the SF-500. That's the one you want.
Easy to operate & very accurate.

They even come with an English manual or at least they have a PDF of it at the link above.

My Chinese SF-500 came with a Russian manual.
    Cheers, Tiny

    Default sat Finder SF-3239

    My SF -3239 comes with a battery pack.No 240 V/extension lead.
It looks the same as yours.
Very easy to use.Just put all the info in first then go up the roof.
The battery pack replaces the receiver.

    Thanks for the advice Tiny.
My local supplier doesn't stock that meter but has an SK 3200 in stock for 120.00 dollars is that simple enough to use and how about the price?
Also how hard is it to work out what to input if you're adding a new satellite I was told to go to Lyngsat but I can't see half the things they ask for.
I am trying to get FTA Cambodian channels and i think Apstar 6c is the satellite I need.

The Satking SK 3200 is specifically setup for VAST.

Again, download and read the user manual. They are not really suited to a complete novice in my opinion.

I think at this stage you are probably better off spending the $ on a professional installer to align your dish, LNB and program the receiver.

Thanks, MTV I would gladly pay to have someone but I don't have anyone that I know of within a reasonable distance to do that for me I am in north-west victoria if you have any suggestions on someone...
The other reason I would like to learn more is that this is already the third time that I have lost signal and had to find it again got lucky the last time.
Plus it is very interesting and I don't mind spending the time and money to learn, I read a lot and every time I find out something it seems to lead to something else.
I have no time limit as I have said before I don't want to move the dish with the motor, for now, I just want to find and lock onto the one satellite APSTAR 6C and then become familiar enough to be able to adjust things as necessary to
    tune if required.
If I get that down pat I will maybe then start to use the setup to change between satellites .
Thanks for all the help I am enjoying this new found hobby

Looking at the manual for the SK-3200, I'd say it's no more complicated than the SK/SF-500.
It's a better tool for sure & the price is good.

If it has the satellites pre-programmed, you need to enter nothing.
According to the product description it comes pre-programmed for VAST which is on Optus C1, a different satellite than what you're looking to tune in.
So, if Apstar 6C is not pre-programmed, then you need to get the transponder frequency, symbol rate & polarity from Lyngsat & enter it in along with the relevant LNB info of your setup.

    From Lyngsat,
    Cambodia TV3 is; C band
    Transponder Frequency = 3919
    Polarity = V for Vertical
    Symbol Rate = 1200

Any other info that the Sat finder needs input you will have to work out.
    Cheers, Tiny

The information is just what I wanted, I am going to get the meter and have a go I think i have almost everything I need to program in Apstar 6c.
It is my new hobby so I expect to have plenty of misadventure before I get it sorted, nothing ventured nothing gained how else will I learn
    Thanks again.

As I said in your "newbie" thread, I know nothing of satellites but am following your adventures with interested curiosity. You sound as though you are going to become quite the aficionado before long! I wish you well in your journey.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
