Default Stromberg carbie pissing fuel everywhere.

    Out of a 1953 Landrover with a 186 kit.

When running it pisses fuel down the bottom of the carbie, right onto the manifolds...big fire risk,, any idea how to fix it guys?

Is there a gasket/seal kit etc? Or is something broken.?

have done the needle and seat and float height thing to no avail.

    thanks

Get the throttle shaft rebushed if it's coming out around that...perhaps.

if it's pissing out it's possibly a gasket. You used to be able to get over haul kits years ago. Does the engine run ok with the fuel pissing out? Check the banjo connection where the fuel line enters also.

you can get some coming out there but I wouldn't consider enough to consider 'pissing out'.

Cool Sold two from farm to mate who has restored.

I'm no expert, but I would consider checking the fuel pump pressure.
If too high, float wont close needle valve fully.

    Maybe something here

Humm - Just re read your post it’s a 186 motor. From memory the carbys on these are pretty simple. If its flooding it suggests the needle is not fully closing on the seat or the level is wrong. Any chance it’s got the wrong length needle in it. Failing that has the fuel pump been replaced with an electric one the 185 was a cam driven mechanical pump from memory with a lot lower pressure. That theory does not fit if the car has been running ok prior to this though.

You can run these carbies with the top off,you just have to block off the exposed vacuum port with a small bit of paper or Blu-Tac.That way you can check the float and fuel level with the engine running.
This is cool to do if you have never seen it before and it gives noobs a bit more of an idea how a carby works.
If it is too high (it should be slightly higher than the float pivot pin) it could be caused by incorrect float setting, fuel pressure too high, fuel leaking into float, faulty needle and seat, dirty fuel preventing seat from sealing, needle in the wrong way, etc.
It is best to have a fuel filter on the fuel line just before the carby.
If the fuel level is fine,it could be the plugs at the bottom of carby that are used to accesss the jets, they could be loose or the copper gasket rings could be faulty.
If it's leaking here put a full kit through it.

These really are a very simple carby and it doesn't take long to become an expert on them once you know how they work.
Ahh,if only things were that simple for today's mechanic

I had the same problem years ago witha set of triples. Problem turned out to be that the bottom of the carby was too close to the extractors and the fuel was boiling and leaking out the overflow hole. I ended up wrapping that section of the extractors in asbestos wrap, and installed an aluminium heat shield. Problem fixed.
Put a but of insulation batt in the gap see if it fixes the problem.

    Cheers.

If its the down draught type it could be the main drain plug or a gasket.

If its the su (side draught) type there is a plug under the float chamber that can dry up and leak. Just rebuilt a twin setup for a Triumph Stag show car.

All the Carbs are rebuildable via a complete gasket kit, i use to deal with Muller and Jacker on high st Preston but they have since closed. I think the rebuild gasket kits were under $40 downdraught/ $70 side draught, very easy to install with new needle and seats, gaskets and o rings, just pay attention to your float level height so you dont run too rich or lean.

Wouldnt be surprised to find the kits at Autobarn, Auto one or Repco.

Dont muck around trying to fix just the leak chances are its due for a rebuild anyway, very easy to do.
Use a bottle of carb cleaner to loosen the gum and compressed air to blow out all the passages.

Oh and dont try to stick wire into any of the jets to clean them. A no no....big no no Carb cleaner, a old tooth brush and compressed air only.

LOL at least you were man enough to put up your hand and say you went wrong.

The word paddock bomb and clutch are rarely used in the same sentance.

Teach him how to shift like a V8 supercar driver

Just match the revs.....well you know the deal.

Just make sure he uses the clutch on the good car.
