Nothing overly heavy but good rain. Had 10mls here already.
Watching it like a hawk on the radar right now, Tiny.

It will be an absolute game-changer if it can make it into NE Vic.

    Here's hoping.

Got a bit exciting here tonight. Seems lightning may have started a fire down the road. We got the emergency alert on the app and sms notice to evacuate. Fire spread fast in the wind. I was thinking we need air support. Saw no trucks, heard no sirens. Then eventually a number of choopers arrived and then heaps of trucks. Burnt over the 2 hills in front of us. The wind was blustery as it was...was kind to us. I'll post pics tomorrow as I'm tired now. Just watching the glow on the hills with about 20 fire trucks over it. They were there all night.

We had steady, light rain yesterday, saved a bit of grief on KI for a while, I just hope that it's enough.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

That second pic would be enough to get the old pulse racing, Leroy.

We got 2.5mm out of the front - very gusty winds, right up until around 0300 today.....but no sign of fire whatsoever, thankfully.

Been calm and clear so far this morning, with a hint of smoke......one can only hope that the worst is behind us......although it's still a ways till the end of Feb.

Been some aerial activity over Buffalo and beyond.......and I believe we have one of the American teams down here as well.

Back at Dads atm on the mid north coast where the fires were about 6 weeks ago.
Took Dad down to a cafe at Old bar which was evacuated and all around got well burnt as still evident.
Light drizzle of rain falling but we both commented how strong the stink of Bush fire in the are was despite there being no fires anywhere around for some time.

Never known so many people of all ages to be wishing for rain.

Victorian firefighter dies near Omeo as Australia's fires crisis continues

A Victorian firefighter has died while working on a blaze near Omeo.

Chris Hardman, chief fire officer at Forest Fire Management Victoria, said the firefighter was involved in an incident while working in the area around the East Gippsland town.

"Family and fellow emergency personnel are being informed and will be supported," Mr Hardman said.

    .........................................

"On that day he had extinguished seven unattended campfires. He was doing incredibly critical work," Mr Hardman said at the time.
As someone who has spent their life camping out in the bush, I am totally lost for words...........the ignorance and stupidity of such an action is almost unimaginable.

Stupid enough for lighting a fire during a ban but more over, WTF would you want a fire, especially a camp fire, on a 46o Day in the first place ??

I had a job in Tumut today. Adelong was lucky not to be hit by the fires. I drove down from Tumut through Batlow and Tumbarumba and then to Walwa today. The devistation is huge. Roads generally clear. Walwa still using gensets. Dropped into the general store and spoke to Joyce. They haven't had deliveries for a couple of weeks. Hoping to start getting stock in next week. Road still blocked/maned by police at Burrowye. So prob Sat. week they will be making their famous burgers!

Hard to stop just anywhere when driving a big van for pics. Houses I normally drive past are ashes. I didn't take pics. Some reason I thought it's kinda disrespectful but made me feel sad for the people. Even their cars were still there at some homes.
Batlow was so lucky in the scheme of things. I can't believe they saved so much. Out buildings and the odd house on the edge of the bush lost. Servo went up in smoke as it had bush behind it. Orchards gone. Pine plantations gone.

    Firebreaks everywhere.

Fire was so hot that everything was burnt. Trees prob won't grow back in some places.

These environmentalists really have something to worry about now, as do the rest of us, and it's a lot more immediate, dire and with far greater implications for Oz than all this climate change bullshit.

Took the ATV for a drive around Dads Property today. There are a LOT of trees dying from the lack of water. you can see them in his and adjoining properties and even others along the roads.
When you see the size and imagine the age of some of these trees, the severity of the drought hits home. There are younger, smaller trees going brown as well as much larger ones. branches are dropping everywhere.

Been -maybe- a MM of rain here over the last few days. It's probably not helping but at least its not drying things out any more.... if that's possible.

Took the forklift down the back where it's normally way too soft at any time and gets bogged. Lifted a complete car with it which was an extra 1620 Kg and drove around without a single problem.
Dirt is hard as cement atm. Probably take a fair bit of rain before the ground softens up enough to even absorb it.

    Unbelievable!

Had the radar running in the study during the evening while watching a movie in the lounge.......kept dropping in to check the progress of that big, beautiful blue/yellow/red mass.......just couldn't believe it when it broke up and dissipated right on our back door step!! Not a friggin' drop!

Thanks for the photos......only fished Paddys just in November.......reckon it will be a while before its worth a go again.

When I see what those poor buggers up there are faced with, and then hear the Melbournites complaining about the smoke disrupting their tennis.............

i still cannot understand other states using wooden power poles it is just stupid.
i hear them scream about the cost of the steel concrete ones we use here in SA BUT the fire does nothing to them and the ones around here were put there in the 1960's.
to replace them every 15 years and after a fire wouldn't it cost more.
