On the same machines with Win10 it worked OOTB.
Jma, you're speaking Greek. Or possibly Sanskrit.
But I can work out your thinking OK - and Phil will be sighing.
So: Linux drivers are by and large installed automatically; but can be installed manually (or once a year, as my husband liked to say) ?

Oh, P.S. is your avatar your avatar because it's the ugliest thing you know ? - and if so, why ? Or am I seeing it all wrong ?
I'll tell thee everything I can: there's little to relate ...

So what did she do with the old computer?
Nothing wrong with Apple, runs Linux too.
Linux is related to Unix and so is Apple's OSX and the iPhone and the Android phone I assume you might have, Smart TVs, Chromebooks, IoT devices like smart lightbulbs, speakers, fridges and actually the whole Internet... one big happy Unix-like family

Unix has been around long before DOS/Windows and will be long after. It has become so ubiquitous and fundamental in our technological lives that I sometimes wonder if an alien intelligence would end up creating a Unix-like system too.

It is fun to read how it all began with these two super cool ancient morons

Of course when it all began with Paul Allen, the brains behind Microsoft, that was exciting too.
    I literally absorbed his book:
Other than SciFi I normally can't read Fiction/Biography books, especially not "Best Sellers".

All that the image was, wotnot, was a rely M-R got about the Geelong chapter of the Linux group. Apparently it is not particularly active, and has no regular meetings as such.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

But why couldn't wotnot see it ? I meant for it to be an inline file, but it turned out to be one that when you click on it, it bloody downloads.

ANYWAY ! - I've just had a real local user actually respond to my post on their message-board !
Turns out he's exactly my age, which should put us on an arumentative footing, eh ? [grin]
He lives in a suburb I know, although it's not close to mine; but he's willing and happy to help ! (He was away when my message went up, and has only just got back.)
So there you go, wotnot: you were quite right !
Thank you very much indeed, mate !

He emailed me to say that he has a laptop that he thinks is a re-branded Lenovo, not fancy one iota but with all my requirements - very few, really ..
He's posting it to me on Monday; and I've asked him to send it a fast as AusPost permits.
    Can hardly wait !

To everyone on this fred who's so patiently put up with me throughout —
