Generally all cargo ships need a good 2 weeks to get here, so they are basically self quarantined, no need to stuff up our economy there.

I have always had a pantry full of food probably for 2 weeks in advance. That is just important for me. I slowly stocked up essential items for a 4 week supply already 3 weeks ago.
Now we have to go shopping in this stress I wanted to avoid because we have to supply somebody who needs to self quarantine for 2 weeks.
By closing borders, do you mean restrictions? They are already in place. Our borders CAN'T just "BE CLOSED". It doesn't work that way. Quarantine has already been enacted.

Some of you people seem to think that the massive logistics involved in these decisions can be just made by decree.....jeez. Australia is a big joint, covering many time zones and entry points. You can't just go "STOP" and have it happen.

For all the whining about the governments responses, the ALP (had they won the last election) would have already probably dismantled whatever border enforcement the coalition had put in place (just like they did last time), and the greens....well, lets just say there probably wouldn't BE any fvcking borders to enforce by now.

Armchair experts like the ABC who's journalists just fan the flames of fear for political purposes have a lot to answer for. And the commercial media are just as bad for fanning fear for profit.

This group of sate and federal governments and their disease experts are the best chance we have IMO. Going off ill informed and half cocked is akin to stripping shelves and panicking in my view. Get a grip.

Oh please...how many of these doctors (IF that is correct, after all, it's the ABC) have all the facts. Sounds more like a mob to me. Just because they are supposedly doctors means naught. Doctors specialising in what?

According to the same link, their own representative body, the AMA, disagrees with them. I'm sorry nm, but I wouldn't trust the ABC to accurately report on ANYTHING. I can't believe that you want to let the country and our health system response be run by "open letter" and youtube via the ABC who seem to want to micromanage every phase of this thing, and question every nuance of every decision. The ABC did just great with the backburning and fires in places like Gippsland.

Sorry, at this stage I'll go with the multi governmental group or whatever it's called, and the advice they are given IF they are acting on it. Of course, they ARE politicians after all and it could all go pear shaped in a heartbeat. They will get some things right, and get some things wrong. It's a fluid situation and no one truly knows what will happen. I expect many years of difficulties for the world as a whole which we may find difficult, perhaps impossible, to cope with.

I also fully expect to catch this thing eventually. I have a bad chest, especially at this time of year, so I'm concerned. But I refuse to put my faith in open letters and the ABC.....I find that suggestion just laughable.

Had an interesting experience yesterday...the wife and I were at Westmead to meet some neurologists regarding my eldest daughters next phase of epilepsy testing and had to walk right past the COVID-19 testing and admission clinic. Hardly any patients there, which surprised the sh!t out of me. I'll admit I was a little nervous and had expected corridors full of panicked people, dunno why.

I guess I'm as prone to media hysteria as anyone else...

Not sure if that site's been posted before or how accurate it is, seems to update quite regular.

Why Not? Europe has closed their borders and I have a feeling they may be a lot bigger than OZ.

We can easily say No one comes in unless you are a citizen or a permanent resident. This shit didn't get here on it's own plane or boat, someone bought it in and the less people bringing it in the better. Fk the tourists and Chinese students whom have a high likelihood of bringing more cases with with them. Only need one person to infect a whole bunch of people on the way that didn't have it when they got on.
Couldn't think of anything more scary than being cooped up in a plane, bus or train atm. Fk wearing a mask, I'd be wearing a full on respirator I have for spray painting.

I look on flight radar and I'm fked if I can see how there is any downturn in the airline industry here at least. If anything, it sincerely looks like there are MORE planes in the air.

Armchair experts like the ABC who's journalists just fan the flames of fear for political purposes have a lot to answer for. And the commercial media are just as bad for fanning fear for profit.
Woke up this morning and the Mrs is watching that moron Kochhead and Mellfunction on the box and they are doing reports on the virus. The reporters are literally screaming into the microphones like they are in a war zone and being shot at. Heard the tone and went in to see WTF had happened? Thought it was 9/11 all over again.
I said to the mrs, is it any wonder they have people on edge when they Rile everyone up like this? No Don't panic, we are just going to do live crosses all over the country to hysterical sounding reporters making out the end of the world is Nigh! But stay calm, just like us......

Made me start to wonder if it is some sort of beat up after all when they go on like that?

Entire world wide media needs to be thrown out and started again with a set of universal rules and laws that stop it turning into the complete and utter load of bullshit and danger to society it has become.

And tell me, what complete and Utter Fktard in the Police force decided they had to announce the suspension of RBT to all the pissheads and morons as well as the rest of the country? Why could they have not just quietly put it on hold, said nothing and prevented idiots from thinking it was OK to have one or 5 more on the way home because there was no RBT so they had bugger all chance of getting caught?

Some idiot needs to be smacked in the back of the head with a cricket bat for that one. What's next? Announcing security staff at the bank have walked off the job or the safes won't be locked or cops are not going to arrest shoplifters?

One thing I was thinking that will see an economic downturn is the Lowlife scum doing break and enters. With everyone home from work and events they are going to find things real tough to find an empty house to roll.

OTOH, with everyone home, Jehova's Witnesses and Avon ladys are going to have a field day!

    I agree.....

The trouble is that there are 5,800,672 experts on TV every day telling you what to do. They are ALL basing their opinions on what is going on elsewhere. What we need is a coordinated source of information. Perhaps two briefings a day from that source.

If we succumb to the panic we're doomed. Don't get the idea that I totally trust this multi government group. I don't. BUT, I'm more inclined to go with them than professional media panic brokers who have a political axe to grind. NOT the ABC or Murdoch. Certainly not Faceache, Twitter, or any other social media app as they are just panic promoters. Not hard for me as I have no social media involvement whatsoever.

6 Months is being quoted as the time frame we battle this for at the lengths we are currently and worse.
Well that is the year stuffed.

I went shopping in Coles today for a couple of items. If I were looking for dub rub, flour or pasta I would be SOL, but I was able to get a bag of frozen peas, some fresh carrot and caulie along with a nice piece of steak. What's the problem?
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

The planes image hasn't vetted out which aircraft are cargo only, and which are passenger transports.... and I tried differentiating them by colour, but that doesn't seem to filter right either...oh well, just saying =)

So the 'flu has gotten to our local town of Beaudesert (20 odd klms from here at home), and no surprises the patient is in one of the local nursing homes. A buddy in the US pointed out of the 55 or something deaths they have so far there, 25 were in the same aged care facility. You could start another conspiracy theory easy, if you could figure out who's to gain for targeting the aged living in care facilities. That industry's in for hard times ahead.

Went to Woolies this morning, just needed a few items but thought I'd take a look around. Empty shelved everywhere, never see it like that before, not a roll of toilet paper in the place. That didn't concern me as I have 4 rolls in the cupboard and a couple in the bathroom, however I was going to buy a pack of antiseptic wipes, just in case I needed them at some stage, not a one in the place.

I find it hard to believe that everyone has stocked up to much, I wonder if there has been some stocking up coupled with no supplies coming from China for a few weeks?

PS, One good thing, I went to the chemist to fill some of my regular medication and found you no longer have to sign for scripts.

    Ok...here's a good one ... like I mentioned elsewhere a week or so ago, eSports and eRacing etc etc was in for a big boon... et voila ;

Today, on behalf of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, I want to provide an update on our plan for managing the 2020 Championship during the months ahead.

We have been working diligently to assess all available options to ensure continuity of the Series.
Obviously, the situation is evolving, but we acknowledge the need to act decisively with the information we have at hand.
Our sport is a visceral experience and rather than run without crowds, we have decided, along with our key broadcast and government partners, to delay any further racing until June.
Tasmania, Auckland and Perth events will all be postponed until later in the year, not cancelled.
Fortunately, our calendar this year enables us to do this.
Supercars’ priority is to deliver the 14 round 2020 championship for our fans and partners, irrespective of the dates. Bathurst will obviously proceed on its scheduled date. We have a plan for how we can make that happen and will begin discussions with all of our stakeholders over the coming days to lock this in.
We anticipate that we will be able to formalise and communicate this plan within the next few weeks. In the meantime, we are unique and fortunate in that we are able to simulate our racing via eSports.
I've kept that font setting as it was in the email announcement, nice try at paling the truth, but for mine that ploy stands out like dog turds on the footpath.

Here's my question - what happens, if the viewing audience ends up preferring the eSports version of Supercars, instead of the real thing? That'd be enough to make you cough =)

I must have got a Dozen " Statements from various Businesses in the last 24 hrs.

Clubs, different suppliers, the Mercedes Stealership, bank, place we bought the furniture, various retailers, the vet (???).... so it goes.
All busy reassuring people they are taking care of their clients / customers by doing whatever because their Customers come first.... BULLSHIT!!
Profits come before everything else, that why they are sending these " Come in and spend like nothing is happening " emails that I have never had before. Don't remember getting any emails from the CEO's saying Merry Xmas or hope you are OK in the fires or Kiss my arse for anything else either.

For those of us who do live through this, I wonder how it is going to change the world when it's all over?
I'm sure every opportunity to further the big brother position of gubbermints and big biz will be taken as well as putting in more controls and giving us less freedoms.... all for our own well being and safety no doubt.

My wife and other staff where she works have been trying to bring in days where they would work from Home for over 3 years. They have meetings and discussions with mismanagement and some Bullshit is always brought up why they can't do it.

Last night mrs comes home and says they are going to give me a work phone and a work computer so I can work from home as they are looking to close down the building because too many people work there. I need to take a Pic of where I will work from and send it to them.
I said they can get Farked. If they have to close downthat's their stiff ship because they have been saying you can't work from home for years and suddenly, when it suits them, It's OK. Yeah well it's not convenient right now so you'll just have to go in. She said they are going to be closing the building. I said well looks like you are going to be bloody busy when they open up again then won't you? In the mean time, You'll have to find something to fill in your time round here.

She said she had to have a meeting with the bosses today. I said ask them when they are delivering your desk and stationary supplies and how much extra you are getting paid? She said why would I get more working from home? I said because you are using our power, our water and bog roll, tea and coffee which they have to provide and using OUR Office space that we pay A mortgage, rates and insurance on. No mortgage but none of their business.

She had the meeting and her boss and one of the directors asked what partners / kids thought of working from home. They asked my Mrs and she said can't tell you what my husband said. The pushed her thinking it would be something funny so she told them I said Piss off, they have kyboshed it for years now they want it and how much extra am I getting paid for providing the place of business, power, water etc? Others chimed in and wanted to know what they were going to be compensated for conducting work business at home as well. She said clearly it made the Director very uncomfortable.

Mrs said one thing is for sure, If we do this now, don't try and tell us we can't do it in the future because there will be problems if you do.

Sure she will save travel time and fuel but these things are always one sided when it suits the company not when it's favourable to the workers.

There might be a win for her though.... Telco they use has absoloute crap coverage here so even if the phone does ring, it's probably going to drop out or not connect properly. They are going to put a 4G dongle on the computer for internet. Yeah, good luck with that, 3G crawls along here and with more people likley to be at home.... I don't think thats going to be real viable either.

Guy across the road works from home a lot and he goes down to the park where the phone works and he can get much better internet.
Maybe Mrs will be better at the beach on a folding table under the Gazebo or down by the river.
