Thanks Shred, yes i think i read that exact same bit about Apples IBeacon
I never knew BT could do this
I guess it makes sense, as with GPS, you could be in the same Lat and Lon location, but 4 stories up in the air, pointless, as the GPS would say you are 1m next to each other
The BT at least confirms your distance in the 3D world.
Ofcourse, the other members already knew this, i'm just the thick one
Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Angle of Departure (AoD) seems to be cool new tech included in BT 5.1 and above
Shame only very few handsets use 5.1, 100's use 5.0
I guess it's done via beacon and sig strength to be compatible with older handsets
But with 5.1 and 5.2 you get some amazing distance resolution
The COVIDSafe App is more likely RSSI based

Yep, Coronavirus Overtakes Ninjas As Top Invisible Enemy.. lol
Ok, so I took a deep breath and installed COVIDSafe on an iPhone (not my normal phone though). It asked to access Bluetooth and to send me notifications. No request to access the GPS.
When the app is running, I can see a new UUID being broadcast. The UUID is "b82ab3fc-1595–4f6a-80f0-fe094cc218f9". A quick Google of the UUID leads me to... a technical article on Singapore's "TraceTogether" app. We were told that the Australian app was to be "based on" the Singapore one, but it looks like they haven't even bothered to change the UUID!
The author of the above article ran the app for a few days on an Android device, then took a backup and extracted the SQLite database used to store the app's data. Each record in the database contained (copied/pasted from the linked article):
- A Timestamp
- the temporary ID of the peer
- An organization which is always set to SG_MOH
- Phone model
- RSSI
- TxPower which is always NULL
If you're interested in snooping around on Bluetooth, try the free app "LightBlue". There's a lot of stuff it can't do, but it's quick and easy to get started with. I run it on an iPad, but there does appear to be a version for Android. See if you notice the above UUID appear and disappear when COVIDSafe is running/not running on a nearby device.
Thanks Shred, a brilliant read>
The next interesting point is the 15 minute (or more) time log
They obviously think your can not get COVID-19 in under 15 min or 10 min or 5 min
One good sneeze in your face oughta do it from what all the scientists are saying, not even that apparently
Appreciate they had to draw the line somewhere, but 15 minutes
I guess it still logs everyone no matter how short a contact

Some more App info here:
As you say Shred, they use the same Production Service UUID
Could this be to gear up for the reintroduction of International Travel maybe?
So the data can be collected if you go overseas or they come here?
Would mean Data sharing between different country servers maybe?

Someone sneeze in my face they will die. lol
Seriously now , The 15 mins is the time that no matter what the other person or you are doing to prevent virus spread, will still give a probable contagion transfer due the time & availability of different contact zones, face, hands, door knobs, coffee mugs, plates, or anything you may have mutually touched & transferred said virus to & the air that you are breathing with possible droplets of airborne virus.
Cheers, Tiny

so what's everyones feeling to load or not to load the app.
we sort of don't want it as we have no cases here where we are and believe it's not required because of the inter regional lock down
I think on balance it's probably a good idea, but in my case it would kill my phone. Bluetooth flattens it.
My only concern, assuming that the present government and opposition are genuine, is future governments and bureaucrats. I have seen nothing in my 66 years that would cause me to trust such people. Making use of the data illegal will not stop criminals.
But, credit where credit is due, our elected leaders level of cooperation and willingness to get together during this current pandemic has been remarkable IMO.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
There is another COVID-19 APP used by the UK and America
It is a completely different style of App. It is basically just a Self Reporting system that allows everyone to provide a daily report on how they are feeling
It is based on what they already known in relations to COVID-19 symptoms and is a nice stop gap measure between Antigen and Antibody Testing, (which is in short supply) and No Testing at all.
Anonymous Data collection (apparently)
It is not available for our country

It is probably a really good way of finding asymptomatic carriers
It's now all about trying to find the invisible enemy
If you are worried about COVID-19, you could also look at it as a form of personal protection
(although by the time Health Authorities contact you with the the bad news, you may already have it, but at least you can go get tested regardless)
The way I see COVID-19 in Australia now is like a nuclear reactor.
We have slowed the reaction down now by removing the physical interaction.
What happens when we reintroduce it?

I said that a fortnight ago but it wasnt taken up complete population testing is the only sure way ??
The current COVID-19 Apps world wide could also be used in the graphic display
I guess they come under "Track and Trace"
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
the government have been able to track phones since the very first mobiles were invented, the accuracy and detail has improved with each generation.
if you use an iphone or android phone your personal data has already been collected by large corporations who have no qualms with using and selling it.
this app does nothing google and apple haven''t been doing for years in a much more detailed and invasive way.
if you''ve got something to hide, its already too late..lol
i have no concerns with the minimal data this app can collect, and neither should you...
Tiny (28-04-20),Uncle Fester (28-04-20)
yeah I suppose you're right, we haven't had any cases here in the avon area for a while
in the greater wheatbelt region there were 10 cases and now there is only 1 active which is miles away
However I guess when working for a utility we travel long distances and to lots of towns it could be a good idea
