Moved to the country 40 year ago for the same reasons ~ get large group of humans together, and if skid marks were worth money, all of your toilets would be spotlessly clean.

Psychology can explain why coronavirus drives us to panic buy. It also provides tips on how to stop

In an address on Wednesday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison sweeping supermarket shelves clean across the country:
Stop hoarding. I can’t be more blunt about it. Stop it. It is not sensible, it is not helpful and it has been one of the most disappointing things I have seen in Australian behaviour in response to this crisis.
It started with toilet paper, and now many are difficult to source, as shoppers stockpile in preparation for the worst.
But is there a rationale for such behaviour? And how can we move beyond our psychological impulses to shop smarter, and consider the needs of others?
COVID-19 - an unwitting stress test

The coronavirus outbreak is not only a time of uncertainty, but also a period in which many of us are . Both of these factors can psychologically motivate people to buy things they don’t need.
Feeling is associated with more extreme hoarding behaviour. Hoarding entails the collection of more items than can be feasibly used, to the point of impeding the functionality of a home. Even though the behaviours we’re seeing may not be “hoarding” in this sense, they’re likely driven by the same psychological mechanisms.
One of the strongest predictors of hoarding behaviour is an individual’s . If it’s in a person’s general nature to avoid distress, they may be at risk of buying more products than they can feasibly use during the pandemic.
For such people, it may be difficult to believe authorities when they announce supermarkets will not close. Or, if they do believe them, they may decide it’s best to “prep”, just in case things change.

A few days ago I saw a video of nurses in Iran apparently putting a patient into a body bag while still alive.
I'll see if I can find the link again.

It IS a joke, but how do you enforce it? Offshore processing centres and guns is the only way it seems.

Full infrastructure for the Pacific Solution would be really handy right now....
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

i can tell you how , My relos in italy have police and army doing street patrols
anyone outside without correct paper work arrested on the spot.

He has said that it is worse than when he was in the war

Another way is what the chinese have said they will do with an app on peoples phones to track.

so if you are told to self isolate then have an app you must install on your phone to track movement
if you go out then fk you arrest pay a ridiculously big fine and see if you stay inside

Currently it looks like we are doubling every 3 days and the curve is not flattening.
It is likely we will surpass the 1000 infection by the end of today.
So based on that info(DYOR but gov figures are delayed, it is weekend) I just ran a quick calculation in my head, so please correct if I am wrong:
by Sunday in 2 weeks we will reach 32,000!

Anybody who thinks this 'hoarding' might be only because of psychological disorders is somewhat off the track.

All the people living inside the Chernobyl Restricted area must be having a right laugh at the rest of the world right

Really depends on where exactly we are in the S curve, in this country...you can't use linear equations, you have to account for the curve -- if we're further along the curve, that estimate will be bigger than the actual number - conversely, if we're at the beginning/bottom of the curve, that estimate will be conservative and the actual number will be higher. It's rather difficult to figure out for Australia (compared to other countries), because we only have 24million people, which are spread over a large landmass area ; you can't directly extrapolate numbers like those coming out of Italy for instance, which is 26times smaller than Australia but has a total population roughly 3 times that of Australia -- more people, less space, increases infection rates and speed of infection spread.

The density of our metro areas can be compared to those in Italy and many other countries in the world.

I am not using a linear function but the exponential f(x) = X^2 which is pretty close to what the curve is looking like.

With Social Gatherings restricted to such small numbers world wide

The next stumbling block will be attending all the funerals!
    How?

Either from COVID-19 or other causes
In Italy, i'd suggest COVID-19 will be a rather large reason of late

EDIT: Video Streaming it seems. What a strange world we have entered.

Not to mention all these poor people dieing alone!

I wonder if we are going to learn anything from all this?

Will China and other countries stop thier consumption of suspect protein sources
We are talking about a country the consumers 10-20 million dogs a year, a country that has No Animal cruelty laws whatsoever
You can beat your dog or any dog to death in the street and there is no penalty

They just want to protect thier Chinese Medicine ways, they have an excuse for eating anything or everything
Herbal Medicine or Warming your Chi, whatever it is......

    I bet you nothing changes
