Anybody predicting a labour shortage in China yet?
Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

Ive been to that market in Wuhan where the virus supposedly originated. Its pretty bad living conditions there , most people cannot afford meat most of the time , and they dont own fridges , so they buy something freshly killed and take it home and cook it up immediately. Any animal you like is up for sale , killed on site before the markets open. The streets are literally covered in blood , and drain into the river.
the virus may have started elsewhere , then multiplied in the fetid atmosphere in the market area , who knows?

I had a Corona with a slice of lime yesterday. Does that count as a confirmed case. Well slab actually.

Dunno about the virus, but drinking Corona at ALL qualifies as sick IMO.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

    Aren't coincidences fascinating?

Questions Surround Canadian Shipment of Deadly Viruses to China

Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory shipped Ebola and Henipah viruses to Beijing on March 31, raising suspicions from experts in biochemical warfare, who say they think China may use the pathogens to develop offensive biological agents.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) report that the incident has not introduced any known risk to public health, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.

The same lab is the focus of an ongoing investigation by the RCMP. The inquiry began following the recent dismissal of the head of the National Microbiology Laboratory’s (NML) Vaccine Development and Antiviral Therapies section in the Special Pathogens Program, virologist Xiangguo Qiu. Qiu, her colleague and husband Keding Cheng, and a number of her international students lost security clearance to their lab on July 5.

Canadian police probe ‘possible policy breaches’ at lab after Chinese scientist removed

The controversy over a Chinese researcher who was removed from her laboratory in Canada has deepened, with police launching an investigation into “possible policy breaches” at the facility.

Qiu Xiangguo, a medical doctor and virologist and one of the first scientists to develop a treatment for Ebola, was escorted from the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg early this month. On Monday, the University of Manitoba said it had severed ties with her until the investigation had concluded.

The case has sparked discussion of Chinese espionage in Canada, after months of turbulent relations following the nation’s arrest of Huawei Technologies executive Meng Wanzhou on a US warrant. Beijing is demanding her return.

Chinese-educated microbiology researcher Qiu – along with her husband and fellow researcher, Cheng Keding, and an unknown number of Chinese research students – were removed on July 5 from Canada’s only level-4 virology facility at the National Microbiology Lab.

And, of course, the most fascinating coincidence is this one:

Inside the Chinese lab poised to study world's most dangerous pathogens

A laboratory in Wuhan is on the cusp of being cleared to work with the world’s most dangerous pathogens. The move is part of a plan to build between five and seven biosafety level-4 (BSL-4) labs across the Chinese mainland by 2025, and has generated much excitement, as well as some concerns.

The abovementioned lab was cleared to BSL-4 operational level in 2017........ in 2019 Canadian police were investigating "possible policy breaches" at the Canadian National Microbiology Lab involving a number of Chinese scientists and students, which appeared to be related to the shipment of lethal viruses to China.

Worthy of note from the above article:

But worries surround the Chinese lab, too. The SARS virus has escaped from high-level containment facilities in Beijing multiple times, notes Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey.
But, most likely it all started at the food market, I guess.

Well, they were able to trace HIV/AIDS back to a similar scenario involving the polio vaccine, so it's definitely plausible that the coincidences you've found could have something to do with it -- time will tell I guess.

It will of course be interesting to see how mankind deals with the global overpopulation of the human species ~ I'm 60-something so may not see it in my time, but, whether by cull or disease, natural disaster or war, *something* has to curtail the global population of human beings, or we may liken ourselves to a mouse or rabbit plague upon all of the planet, and we all know how they deal with that kind of overpopulation.

Due to the fact I've worked in microbiology, I surely worry that something like this may occur ~ the creation of a new virus with no known cure, that can infect all people of the world, and offer about 20% survival rate via those with a natural resistance. Trouble is it won't be coincidence or consequence, but covert contrivance.

This article from Zerohedge (yeah, I know....but the article is actually reproduced from another source) attempts to do some more "dot joining".

Did China Steal Coronavirus From Canada And Weaponize It?

Last year a mysterious shipment was caught smuggling Coronavirus from Canada. It was traced to Chinese agents working at a Canadian lab. Subsequent investigation by GreatGameIndia linked the agents to Chinese Biological Warfare Program from where the virus is suspected to have leaked causing the Wuhan Coronavirus outbreak.

Interesting that the first record of what appears to be the current coronavirus apparently occurred in 2012 in a saudi bloke admitted to hospital in Jeddah:

Unfortunately, all of the links to the source of the Zerohedge article, and many others referenced therein (Great Game India) result in the message: "Error establishing a database connection", so there's currently no way to determine their veracity or otherwise.

I guess the fact that the links aren't working is just another one of those pesky coincidences

Can you imagine the panic and outrage that would occur if it ever came to light that this thing had escaped from a government-run laboratory.......particularly one with potential military links?

Currently 3000 infected 80 died mostly elderly (that link in the OP is outdated), means a way too high survival rate for a bio weapon.
Of course all the conspiracy BS will be circulating everywhere from now on.

Can only hope the scientists here in Australia can create a vaccine in 3 months as they said some days ago.

Just a couple of comments Uncle:

    1. I think it's a wee bit early to be dismissing legitimate questioning as "conspiracy" theories......I'm not into conspiracy myself, but I think it is a good thing to have a healthy skepticism of "official narratives" in this day and age.

Let's face it......the Chinese Communist Party is hardly a paragon of virtuous honesty.

    2. It is not relevant to compare "Infected" with "Deceased"........the correct ratio to watch is "Recovered/Deceased"........."infected" doesn't automatically imply "recovered".

Many of the the "infected" may well just be "deceased-in-waiting".

    3. The purpose of many modern-day biological weapons is not to kill the enemy.....the purpose is to incapacitate the enemy and overload their infrastructure to the point that they can be easily taken over. What is referred to at the end of the Zerohedge (Great Game India) article as a "bloodless victory".

Edit: I have changed the word "cured" to "recovered"......."cured" suggested only those who had responded to treatment......"recovered" encompasses those who have responded to treatment, and those who have managed to shake off the infection through natural body processes.

The Coronavirus dashboard linked in the OP has been updated to Jan 26, 11pm EST (not sure whose EST that is).

    Current status:

    Total infections: 2,794

    Total Deaths: 80

    Total Recovered: 54

An interesting paper on the H1N1 Swine Flu pandemic:

First Global Estimates of 2009 H1N1 Pandemic Mortality Released by CDC-Led Collaboration

This study estimated that 80% of 2009 H1N1 deaths were in people younger than 65 years of age which differs from typical seasonal influenza epidemics during which 80-90% of deaths are estimated to occur in people 65 years of age and older.

The H1N1 virus is of the same family of viruses as the current Novel Coronavirus (2019 nCov).

One must not forget that that there up to 650,000 respiratory deaths from influenza each year, 12500 each week.
The influenza virus is constantly evolving on it's own.

We have pretty strict quarantine laws in this country for animals, plants and food stuffs. As this infection is mainly in China at the moment, why on earth does our government not close our borders to people from China, until at least an injection against the disease is developed? After that more will be known about the disease, people immunised etc. and the closure could be reviewed.

    Because.....

Oh, and plus the fact that many Chinese are now Australian citizens (can't keep them out) and own large swathes of Sydney and Melbourne real estate.

Much simpler to have them remain in China till a vaccine is developed.
