And therein lies the problem....what started out as a public health issue has quickly morphed into an economic issue.

It's what happens when a country becomes so enmeshed in the globalist economic system that it loses its ability to make independent sovereign decisions.

It's also an outcome of the contemporary trend of the needs of the society taking second place to the needs of the economy.

We have joined ourselves at the hip with a country that is both our major customer and our major supplier, and that has now taken a very large hit from Covid-19.

We have subscribed to the "just in time" model of supply, and spurned the idea of holding inventory.

We have based large parts of our economy on the provision of cheap third-world labour.

We have casualised around 25% of our workforce.

We have pretended to ourselves that education of overseas students and tourism from other countries constitute "export" industries.

And we have signed up to numerous "Free Trade" Agreements, most of which contain potentially punitive ISDS provisions, which make Government decision-making fraught with possible unforeseen consequences and costs.

These ISDS cases can be brought about even when public health issues are at stake - evidence the Philip Morris case against plain cigarette packaging:

When even winning is losing. The surprising cost of defeating Philip Morris over plain packaging

Australia scored a victory over the tobacco giant Philip Morris in the High Court in 2012. The court held that Australia’s plain cigarette packaging laws were legal and did not constitute an unjust confiscation of trademarks and intellectual property. Philip Morris had to pay all of Australia’s costs.

If it had been an Australian company, that’s where it would have ended.

But because of a once obscure but increasingly common class of provisions in international treaties known as an ISDS (remember that name) it tried again.

And so, what once would have been considered a slam-dunk decision is no longer so straightforward.

The piper must now be paid.

I find it interesting that 2 of the worlds biggest tourist melting pots, Bali and Thailand have been very quiet on the news front

Bali recording its first official death yesterday
I guess when you hace a massive tourist economy to protect, you don't say much.

And on that matter, what about all the people hiding thier illness?
Who fail to disclose they have a positive COVID-19 diagnoses?

Overnight the Italians closed everything except for food and medical outlets.. /worrying they can't contain it.

Supply chains are really feeling it now.. A Recession is coming and Italy's economy will crash even further

There saying Confirmed Infected cases are doubling every 3 days.

China's figures are falling so that's a good sign. /if true at all ?

I find it very hard to believe thier is a World Reporting system that is accurate

I know the technology is there, but since when could any Government get figures right?
Let alone on a world scale

All this will do will make it grow just more slower and more painful for the economy and everybody's welfare.
All countries will eventually end up like Italy.
You can't expect everybody to stock pile and stay home for 3-4 months.

It may work for 3 weeks but you will never be able to enforce it and the enforcers themselves would get infected trying to stop people going outside, thus infecting more.

The virus is less of the problem compared to how we are/will be dealing with it.

We are still a very long way away from the average 600million who die from the flu each year.

    Really??

And the 600,000 of which you meant to speak is NOT an average.

Flu deaths per annum range between about 290,000 and a maximum of around 650,000 in a really bad season.

And if Covid-19 maintains its current infection rate, and its current CFR, then 600,000 could look like a pretty ordinary number.

Where are all the Health Care Professionals, Flight Attendants, Customs Workers, Airport Staff with this virus?
You'd think they would be highly represented in the figures ???

The initial live dashboard figures were compiled by Johns Hopkins University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering, as available at

A new one has been put up, compiled by a School Kid in USA,
Both have similar figures & I'll guess most of the info comes from freely available data posted by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The initial sources of data in each country would be pooled from Testing Labs, Medical Centres & Hospitals, which would be automatically picked up by the WHO.
Global data acquisition is amazing when you think about it.

    Royal blood is no defense!!

There are fears the Queen could have after British health minister Nadine Dorries was diagnosed with the disease.Dorries works closely with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Johnson attended the Commonwealth Service with the Royal Family earlier this month.

took a while to find a link for that, however I did so.

Amid growing public anxiety over the novel coronavirus, President Donald Trump announced that the United States is suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for a month, starting Friday.

"To keep new cases from entering our shores, we will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days," Trump declared during a prime-time address to the nation from the Oval Office Wednesday night.

The new rules will go into effect Friday at midnight, the president said, and will include exemptions for American who have undergone appropriate screenings. The restrictions do not apply to the United Kingdom.

Poor old Wilson, the tragedy of it all.
