And that is just those that tested for it
What multiple do you think it is for those with no or little symptoms, or just don't want to get tested for whatever reason or simply dont know they have it yet because they in the early stages?

I am wondering when Risk vs Reward will kick in this is country
Plenty of School Teachers, Nurses, etc that would be nearing retirement age and must be thinking "They are not paying me enough for this risk" .... Do i return to work even though the Government says i'm meant too?

Nurses will save lives if they do.
Teachers will save lives if they don't.

I honestly can not believe Schools are still open

Talk about a breeding ground and threat to older staff

No School has been provided PPE or Hand Sanitiser to protect employees and/or students
Yet in the next breath, Government and Police are saying they will "Fine" members of the public for being in large gatherings (over 100 people) and not self isolating.
Plenty of schools are 1200+ students, some a lot more than that.

Schools teachers are being used as Baby Sitters

Some Private Schools have closed and told Staff they are stood down without pay??
What?? Private School fees are paid in advance.

I can see Teachers and Staff fronting up Principles over this weekend and Principles having to tell Government, staff just aren't coming Monday, we can't open.

If 31 people got COVID-19 from attending 1 wedding in Australia

Australia took more isolation precautions when we had Equine Influenza in 2007.
Just goes to show its all about money.

One argument I've heard in favour of keeping schools open is that if the schools are closed, the kids will be dumped on the "grandma and grandpa child minding service" and that's ultimately a worse outcome for our society.

that is the message i gave my kid , ive done my bit

They will not stay at home...

That argument is flawed in so many ways.

Grandparents minding the kids BEFORE they get infected at school will not get infected!
That is why schools need to be shut down TOMORROW, or maybe just skeleton classes with very low numbers to maintain social distancing for those who absolutely can not find a way to home school like families where both partners are emergency workers although I can't believe these people do not have friends or relatives who could help.

There are currently 'only' 1000 infected in Australia, so the likely hood of having an infected child at school RIGHT NOW is still low.
Today in two weeks however we WILL see 20,000-30,000 infected(showing symptoms) if we do nothing, up to 30% young people based on latest data.
Many of those 30k people will start getting infected tomorrow as it can take 2 weeks for the incubation time.
Take them out of the equation NOW and we will flatten the curve.

The earlier we fully shut down and everybody except emergency services take 2-3 months holidays , the quicker we can be back in business, maybe in 3 months as things are already looking a lot better in China.
Only unknown is our upcoming flu season, which makes things difficult to compare to those northern hemisphere countries who may soon recover because they locked all down earlier or were just more disciplined than us.

ScoMo do you want the economy to suffer for 3 months or 3 years?

Nip the bud before you are forced to fell the tree !

Sure it might be being over precautious, but what other options are there?

I love how Australia is so proud to say "We are leading the world at xxxxx"
Yet when it comes to a world health issue, we are just being followers

Wait until this takes hold in the African Nations
Only the rich will get treatment, a social war will start, greater than what is there already....

Then China will step in and save them with medical aid, just the backdoor to thier hearts and minds they have been waiting for,
Not that they don't already blackmail them with lending for projects they know they can't complete or repay.

There is no over cautious with something like this. We get one shot at keeping the numbers down. There is no second chance if we don’t go in hard enough to start with.

That’s why I just can’t understand the slack response from our governments. Waiting for weeks to close the borders, but then allowing five people freshly off a cruise ship with active cases to come home to Tasmania. WTF.

Aaand we are STILL not seeing the use of non contact thermometers to check the temperature of people getting off aircraft and ships - something Asian countries started doing months ago.

I’ve been playing around with my $10 BangGood non contact thermometer. It’s surprisingly accurate and consistent when compared to a “proper” thermometer built to take a person’s temperature.

Only for the two Labor governed states(go figure) VIC, ACT.
I am happy to read that ACT seems to be following what I suggested above, while VIC bringing holidays forward is not such a good idea in the middle of all the work flow and assignments. Distance education is the way to go.
Google classroom can run on any old puter just with the Firefox browser, even Linux I tested. At least the setup my son's public high school uses.
I have kept him home preemptively since last Wednesday. Home schooling is fun. Teachers have provided all their resources.
We will now have plenty of time to learn to become teachers, not just Netflix 24/7.
