Lockdown extended in the ACT another month.......
F*CK!
Dunno how you Victorians lasted.......
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
Covid killed the flu, zero deaths in AU compared to 953 deaths in 2019:
At least nobody can say that lock downs don't save lives.
Also proof that Covid, including Delta, is more deadly than the flu.

yep it's spreading at a faster rate. It caught the train from Syd to Albury (that's the thought) hence it going into lockdown today.
The flu is very interesting. Funny how everyone compares covid to the flu. If only it would disappear the same way!
As for social distancing and cleanliness I have practiced that every year in the flu season since I can remember and still got the flu.
Try to extrapolate the amount of deaths if we hadn't had the lockdowns and mask wearing.
These measures brought the flu deaths from 953 to zero, essentially a factor of 953.
Try multiplying 1.128 Covid deaths with the factor of 953.
Yes it sounds overly simplistic but may not be that far off. Prove to me otherwise!
Don't forget we also now have much higher vaccine uptake for Covid than for flu shots.

Had my second rasta shot today. I'm disappointed, I thought that I'd get a little bit high, at least.... (have to go back to smoking the stuff, I suppose)
Seriously I did have my second Astra Zenica shot, the next couple of days will tell if I get any reaction. Son has had two Pfizer shots and felt crap for a coupe of days after the second one.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
We don't know ourselves. Civil disobedience is much higher than last year when Victoria had the long lockdown.
Dictator Dan today revealed some "modest restrictions relief" under growing pressure from Matthew Guy. Thanks god we have opposition leader changed who is asking right questions and demanding plans from Andrews.
What most annoys me is Dan didn't remove curfew stating that he didn't receive health advice to remove it. This is an absolute joke. There was no health advice to introduce the curfew in the first place. It was requested by police to simplify their work at night hours.
I want this parasite gone for good from political arena together with his cabinet.
Dunno how old the cartoon is, but fact is the characters it portrays had, a month ago now, openly declared they didn't think any measures could stop the delta strain from eventually entering Qld, and it was a grand opportunity to leverage the lockdowns in the southern states (along with border controls), to get as many Qlders as possible vaccinated *before* the inevitable happened. It's a bit of a race, yeah, but I think they'll probably make it with JIT efficiency =)
I can imagine the cartoon is recent, as it's easy to see by the numbers that Qld is about last on the list wrt the % of population having had their 1st/2nd jab, but that's not the whole picture ~ Qld is a land area about as big as NSW & VIC combined, and as such has a much sparser, widely spread demographic. Exactly how sparse?...try this on for size -- population of Sydney, a single city = ~5.3million ; population of Qld, for the entire state more than twice the size of NSW = ~5.2million. Or how about VIC that's roughly an eighth of the area of Qld and has a population of ~6.6million, with ~5million of them living in Melbourne alone. Then you have to weigh in population density, and Melb has the highest, followed by Sydney, with Brisbane having the lowest (less than half the population of Syd. in a 25% larger area) When you're talking a virus like this, that transmits to others in the way that it does, everything we've seen so far is reconciled in these numbers.
So, when we see hysterics of the "OMG! Qld has only got 60% vaccinated!! Shame, shame.." kind, the actual reality is this -- Brisbane ~2.3million + GCoast ~0.5million + Sunshine Coast ~0.35 million = ~3.45million of the state's ~5.3million...roughly 64%
Ergo, when you read 60% of Qlders have had their first jab, that's better than 90% of the Qld population that are living in high density residential locations like big cities/towns, which is one of the key factors in this virus' transmissible spread - large groups of people living together ; no doubt the journos will have another dig at it when they see only 60% of Qlders have had their 2nd jab, but the same reality applies. I reckon it is reasonable to hypothesize that if Brisbane had a population greater than 5million, it too may have seen the same thing happen as Melbourne/Sydney have experienced since this all started.
All those numbers come from the 2016 census results btw, and talking about numbers (big picture), for poops and laughter I strained the 'net for the best figure I could obtain, that represented the total number of deaths globally since the covid19 outbreak started -- you know the reported number is going to be lower than actual, because the CCP and other countries like that misreport the real figures, so you have to fudge the reported with a guesstimated unreported bias, and even at +10% bias, can you even imagine the percentage of the world's population, that have died of covid19 (all variants)? 0.06% ..oh ... my ...gawd. I rechecked my math a couple of times, but kept getting the same result ~ someone else should do the thought experiment and calculate it, as a very real chance to let me know if I'm losing all my mental faculties wrt to math ; to me, that percentage number seems less than trivial, in the big scheme of things.

Found this interesting......

Interesting for sure.. Hopefully larger trials will show positive outcomes too.
I thought this paragraph was interesting
Merck has said data shows molnupiravir is not capable of inducing genetic changes in human cells, but men enrolled in its trials have to abstain from heterosexual intercourse or agree to use contraception. Women of child-bearing age cannot be pregnant and also have to use birth control.

And now this...I thought that this vaccine didn't work...

A good one for the conspiracy theorists....
China released the virus... then makes an antidote available... at a price.

No, but that's effectively what was in my post. The pressure from universities has been heavy.
My point, I guess, is how much influence getting students back weighed in their decision. I truly hope none. And wheres the data? There was no problem releasing it for the other vaccines.
I would assume they would have to quarantine, but that's no guarantee.

More food for thought....
