i have a dm500 doing exactly the same thing, it loads to the Gemini startup screen and just stays there doing nothing. I also have tried reflashing and erasing but not luck.
If anyone has any idear what to do let us know
Thanks

Hello, can anybody help me with this? I have two DM500s, they were both working fine up until a few days ago, and both were in diffrent locations.
The problem I have is that they do not turn on, when the power supply is plugged in the green LED lights up, it can not be turned off and on via the remote. I have used dreamUP with a null modem cable and have erased, erased, erased, then reflashed with the original dm500s img but still will not come to life. I have erased x 5, them flash x3 but still nothing.
Any ideas? thanks again for reading
Cheers Yobbo

hmm something simular happen to me aswell (twice actually)
I rebooted and the box didn't turn back on!
im running Gemini
Have seen this a few times, and managed to get around it, though there are different issues here with the two problems.
The instructions I was given by the manufacturer was to reflash with the factory image from the clone maker, not the old dream image, it uses a different tuner.
Of course you have....earthed the LNB haven't you guys ????
I will post the factory image for your clones (?) when they get the site attachment sizes sorted out on this site.
z80 do you have to earth the new dm500s we are buying now
from here say in the last month or two???
cheers
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
Bugger, do i just do a Google for it or is it
something straight forward
cheers

Loop a earth from a gpo to your wall socket connector (behind the plate).
Now be nice what is a gpo
last time i heard it was the post office

General purpose outlet = Power Point. Sorry
Hello, thanks for your replies, yes I have earthed to a gpo, these two 500s are clones and I do not have the original manufactures img file, I have flashed the with the genuine dm500s img and gemini and still nothing. These boxes are 12 months old and died while in use, I have been trying to flash them to get them up and going again. cheers Yobbo
Noone really knows, we suspect it's a spike or static discharge path etc.
But if you do it you have less problems than if you don't.
Bear in mind that the TV may be live chassis, the sound system may also be at another potential and the common earth is via the RCA video/audio leads and the lnb cable to maybe a disceq switch on a tin roof....the possibilities are endless. a tin roof unearthed can make a decent stray voltage.
The result is the flash ram and the tuner circuits stuff up.
If you are lucky it will be a simple reflash, if not then some components are stuffed in say...the tuner or LNB drive section.
In previous threads there was a fix for a transistor q571?
On the main pcb near the rear of the IR sensor of the box is where it all seems to fall apart when the tuner won't lock.
Other times the psu regulator gets zapped.
Surely we've all had the zap when handling some LNB cables at one time or another? Imagine what that does to the Dream motherboard....
yobbo,
I once had a similar problem and traced it to a faulty plug pack, it was low in voltage, apparently it had enough voltage to turn the led on but would not do anything else, a new plugpack solved the problem.
yeah..the plugpacks are a bit marginal for our Aussie voltage of 240v.
Had one blow the cartride fuse on building point of entry....brand new, straight out of the box too.
I can verify these spikes stuff up your boxes.
Only a few weeks ago I plugged my DM500 in while the tv was on.
No earth on this one even after all the advice (yes I'm a dickhead).
I saw a spike fly accross as soon as I plugged the first rca plug in.
Box is dead now. Won't light up and won't answer to serial connection.
Moral of the story, don't play with boxes if you've had a few to drink and suffer from the "she'll be right" attitude.
z80 do you have an electronic diagram for these boxes?
It's a shame these boxes aren't jtag-able.
