I made a comment there about me taking my other half to hospital. I feel an explanation is in order. She has been chronically ill for about 30 years so we are well acquainted with the public hospital system and the shortfalls, thereof. We have two public hospitals which we regularly inhabit. The Queen Elizabeth in suburban Adelaide for all her cardiac needs. Generally requiring two or three days in high care cardiac ward and often as two or three times a month. Again, the QEH for Cancer treatment which is in remission at the moment. The Royal Adelaide Hospital for her neurological needs - she has Hydrocephalus and a VP Shunt (look it up). Currently, however, she is in the RAH Spinal unit because she had a fall early in December and the swelling has finally gone down. It turns out that she had damaged her T7 vertebrate and a piece of it was pressing on the nerves in her spinal column. So, surgery to remove said vertebrate and a metal plate inserted. The prognosis without surgery was paralysis, with surgery, a good chance of paralysis, sot of Damned if you do, damned if you don't! Anyway, I was in there today and she a)was actually able to sit up and be taken to the toilet and b) with help take 2 steps to get back to bed. She can sort of move her left leg, her right one moves ---- just. Early days yet. Hopefully she can regain some movement or I'll no longer be capable of nursing her at home.
That, in a nutshell, is her current situation.
