While Ducati were happy to have Casey Stoner, personally i could NEVER see Ferrari taking Dan.
Even if he does look European and has a very Italian last name.... He is an Aussie.
And we've all seen how far that gets you in the corporate world of F1.

And speaking of Corporate, Dan on $49m with Renault, Charles Lec on $3.5m with Ferrari... I can't see how this is going to work.

It is a shame, as Dan in a competitive car would be a challenge for the world title.... Hmmmm maybe there is the problem right there.
Like all of them at this time in thier career, he will just follow the money, $49m wasn't a bad pay day to go drive a slow car.

That comment is utter rubbish and some Aussies need to stop being a poor loser.

I think $45m from one team and a whole lot of podium finishes in another team got him very far for an Aussie.

It's got nothing to do with being a "Poor Loser"

It's just business economics, marketing worth to the target audience, etc

If you have 2 drivers of equal talent, one is Australian, one is European, which do you think a European F1 Team is going to pick as thier number one driver?

Especially given most of these teams also sell top end vehicles in those markets
Obviously there is more involved than we would ever hear about and money talks at the end of the day.

Yeah right, because Renault was such a title threat to anyone, bahahahahaha

What other No.1 driver was Renault ever going to get?

Point is now, Dan doesn't want to be a No.2 driver, Seb just left Ferrari because he doesn't want to be a No.2 driver either.

So he either stays put in the hope Renault can provide and competitive car and he can be the No.1 driver.
Or, he goes back to being a No.2 driver somewhere (If they will take him)

The biggest bummer of this virus shutdown is that in preseason testing, other teams were saying the 2020 Renault in the hands of Dan was impressive & possibly threatening.
Hopefully we get to see some on track action to assess where they are really at.

I was coming here to post that. Not sure they are that much better really but if they have the Merc engine and get the chasis sorted it might be good.

The next moves are going to be really interesting

Will it be 2 newcomers from F2 provided they can get thier Super Licence?
    or
Perez to Renault and Vettel to Aston martin???? (They'd want a proven fast driver)
    or
Does Renault throw a big carrot at Vettel to keep him in the game and thier momentum going

    Very interesting times ahead

No matter what now, Vettel wasn't very good at following orders anyway, his last 6 months at Farreri are going to be a scream
As much as Dan Ric battling with the Mclaren's for the remainder of 2020

So what happened to the Press Release not long ago, I'm with it for the long haul with Renault.....

Sadly, after all the musical chairs has finished, it's still going to be the exact same constructors championship anyway....

    Silver, Red, Blue

Or any other variant of 2nd and 3rd.

And Danny, back to being the best of the midfield

There's more racing in this thread in as many months, than there has been racing in F1 for as many years =)

Why Ricciardo has gambled his future on McLaren rather than staying at Renault

    It's probably all a game
They "ALL" say they want to win... Probably just good self promotion to get the best money out of a team.

If Williams offered him $50M to drive with them, i'm sure him or anyone would go.
Money talks, especially at this point in your short career

Another interesting article, What do Sainz and Ricciardo moves mean for Vettel and the rest of the driver market?

& an interesting free podcast on the whole subject, well worth the listen if you have 25 mins to spare for first part , full length 45 mins & still interesting.

I think Dr. Seuss needs to write another book..... "Where's Seb going...?"

Coming down to who's got a half reasonable car and some deep pockets

Renault? Mercedes? Out for a year until regs change? Retire all together?
