Red face Home CCTV upgrade help

Hi everyone we are looking at upgrading our home CCTV setup

We had a system installed a few years back
    Its a Dahua 8 channel DVR XVR5108HS
And we are running 8 cameras with the older connection type HDCVI
7 of them are 2 megapixel DAHUA
1 of them IS 3 megapixel TRUVISION and is far better than the others

The DVR is extremely noisy. It can be heard from almost anywhere in the house and its hidden in a broom closet.
The camera quality is not great even in Daytime we really want a better system
We have had a few crimes in the area and if we had better quality at the times We could have identified some people and vehicles

What options would we have for an upgrade ?
Given that all the cables are in place Either keeping the existing cables and get a new DVR with new cameras ?

    Or changing everything to I.P.

If I have to spend a bit more I dont mind i'd rather get something good for long term

I am not an expert so i dont understand too much of the technical
Could I get some reccomendations please ?

    Thanks in advance !

Would be cheaper to keep using the existing cabling so it means going for CVI or TVI system.
Most brands are now up around 5MP for this technology being Dahua, Hikvision or TVT
Most likely it is just the internal fan that is noisy, might be blocked with dust.

IP is good and more future proof with more advances in megapixel and the image technology. Generally the standard at the moment is 5, 6 and 8MP cameras

I like the Uniview cctv product. Good app for remote viewing.

Another option is Hikvision, but probably more $$$ then Uniview.

Dahua is another brand but not one of my preferred products.

Many other brands around as well.

@secure, are you able to recommend a system that complies with the US government orders from last year? The banning of the Chinese manufactured cameras there, and the removal (and possible ban) by many governments and agencies over here is Aus, makes me wonder if I should look elsewhere when upgrading soon.

Hikvision, Dahua and Uniview are all on the ‘banned’ list. In fact, it’s hard to find reliable and reasonably priced cameras that are not on the banned list.

    Any suggestions?

I don't know if there is any reasonably price cameras that are not on the banned list!

I think TVT would be on the banned list
TruVision might be banned. But might be under Interlogix.
The lastest bosch might be ok?

Thanks. Some Bosch ones I was looking at a while back ended up being Dahua OEM’s anyway, actually I was surprised how many of the brands ended up being rebranded banned cameras.

I’ll probably just end up with another Dahua system. The one I have has been reliable and they seem well priced - and at least I know it’s only the Chinese spying on me.

I found similar when looking around to see what I could get on my shitty budget.

You could look at NYX or Hanwha for a budget system or Avigilon for a high end system that is made in Canada

I had to replace the old cheap clunker I had when the hard drive failed the other week. No complaints, 24/7 for 4 years or so on an el cheapo system.

I replaced it with this system

But I only paid $398 buying it elsewhere (catch.com.au....though its since gone up to $448) and consider it a bargain considering it has 4 cameras and a 2Tb Hard drive. I know its not top spec, but its pretty decent given what I paid for it. The cameras do 2048 x 1536.

If I had a better budget, I would have spent more on something from Dahua or Hikvision, but if anyone is looking for good bang for buck, I am impressed with this for the money I paid. I am going to add another 4 cameras, I have an open yard and some of the things I have seen on motion detection mean I now want to see my whole property. I will likely get 4 of these this week and that will do me for a while :

Plus having POE and Onvif rather than the old BNC, I can upgrade bits when I can afford them like the NVR.

Dahua is perfectly ok to use. If there was hard evidence of spying, it would be banned completely. Just use port forwarding instead of P2P if worried. If your that worried about Chinese spying, you would already have an outbound firewall setup and NVR would be segregated from local network. Look around at your other products in your house, they all have Chinese components tbh, even your router/modem no doubt. Any home installation is fine to use Hik or dahua atm. Everyone is super paranoid about other countries checking in on their front lawn, personally my own country using motion/video meta is more worrying. Just my opinion.
