Dropped the wifes Subaru off the other week for another recall. because it is a recall they give you a courtesy car. Had it serviced at the same time. Wasn't complaining, She got to drive a nice new top of the line Forrester for a couple of Days. Don't know what the policy of Toymota is but anytime suby do a recall, and there have been a few of late with airbags, fuel pumps and wiring, you get a courtesy car.
Was pretty Funny when she Picked it up. It's an Impreza Sedan body with all XV running gear and interior to get the height up. They don't make XV's in sedan which had them scratching their heads at the stealership how the hell she got a special one off build they never heard of. Asked my wife about it and she casually said, yeah, it's a one off. When they asked how she got it she said my husband and father in law built it.
Girl at the counter said I'll have to tell them in the workshop, they couldn't figure out how it was all factory parts.
My outback also has to go in for a fuel Pump. Recalls seem to be par for the course these days. Last one was to put a sticky backed piece of foam under the dash because a couple of country vehicles with mega miles on them had the wiring rub through on a bit of metal.
all modern emissions controls kill engines.

thats not good , dismantling a transmission after only 3.5 years. The replacement bearing looks no different to the old one so the issue will probably happen again.
DLC for cars
Ive got another one - ok , so not a modern design but still pretty crap. I had a 1975 Ford Cortina , with a 2L pinto engine , and the cam bearing at the rear of the head was larger than the bearing at the front of the head!!! so if you ever needed to remove the cam ( they used to chew out camshafts ) then the head had to come off!!! Havent bought anything made by Ford since...
Goodgrief....
Did you ever see the 4.1 XE falcons here?
The Distributor cap was jammed up so tight under the inlet manifold you had to take it off to change the cap.
Some of the Territory's need half the front end of the car disassembled to change headlight or parking light globes.
Ford aren't the only one with this sort of piss poor design but they do well with it.
To replace the Horn on my Boulevard I must first remove the engine!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
Unlike Harleys, they are so reliable, they never need repairs.

Why wouldn't they be? Half of the components on them are Japanese anyway.
Mines got a Jap carb, jap ignition, forks, Shocks, instruments and plenty more.
100K Km on a Harley without the engine being cracked is nothing unusual. Same mileage on a jap bike is very rare without it having major work as in rebuild.
Mate of Mines Sons have Jap Dirt Bikes. I didn't really believe them when they told me they need the rings replaced in as little as 20 30 Hours. I said I thought they were 4 Strokes. They said they are! WTF? I looked it up and they were right!
I used to get a lot more than that out of the 2 stroke screamers I had 30 years ago and they were all worked.
I was going to buy a Ducati till I learned how much maintence those things need like as in pulling the engines down in as little as 20-50K km on some of them. I don't think you could go for a ride on the ones same vintage as my bike without brining them back and re doing the valves and other things.
Which is why I added the "smiley". I would have bought a Harley myself but for the cost factor. If I was after a sportie for hooning around town, I'd be a Harley owner now. I was going to do 1000s of Ks over the next few months (8000 in the last three weeks) so needed a tourer. I bought a Boullie and saved about 15K over an equivalent Harley. Bonus is; shaft drive, so I don't have to worry about chains or belts which can, and do, wear out or let go at inopportune moments.

Yeah, The price of Harleys has come into question a lot in comparison to other bikes. From what I read, the company is not doing well. Again. They went broke, Willie G took it over and they were going great guns but seems not so much any more. When I bought Mine in "95 There was a wait to get them. I don't think that's happening now Unless you want a special order.
Have to say, I find mine well designed. The bolts on the thing are mostly Allen Key and they are not made of butter like a lot of other things that strip soon as you put a spanner on them. Really haven't found anything annoying with it as far as service. Only problem I had with it was fairly early on when the ignition module went on it. Was out of warranty but The dealers Replaced the thing at cost ( showed me their invoice) and didn't charge labour. I was happy with that. Otherwise I have had No problems. Mrs wanted to buy another one when we went looking about 12 Months ago but the one I have is very sentimental and I can't see myself ever parting with it so not much point having 2. Looking at the current ones, they all seem a bit " Soft" to me. They seem to be moving away from their real target market and trying to please the Yuppies. Too many doo Hickeys, too much emphasis on comfort rather than the raw riding experience and too much Mass market appeal.
Nearly Choked when I saw they have an electric model.
I was looking at the Boss Hoss the other day. If they weren't so over the top price wise I'd have one of those.
You can watch all the vid if you wish, but with respect to topic, you only need to watch this for 30seconds and hear Eric'O describe where the starter motor is =)
I guess this is what happens when you transverse mount a V8 in a FWD car.... oh, the horror =)
same as any Toyota V8 , petrol or diesel , the starter is under the intake , i believe its 12 0r 16 hours labour to replace?
