Why would you use Windwoes?
I just had to fix a mate's computer. His PSU was dead and two of the case fans were DOA. Time I cleaned out the dust and replaced the faulty components, the next task was to wait for Windwoes to start up, A cup of coffee later and I could then see what was clogging up his boot drive. Only about 30Gb of games installed by various grandchildren at different times and suddenly there's room for Winders to update. I then spent a couple of hours scanning working my way though everything including the registry to ensure it is going to behave itself. A few re-boots later and he can now see the external drive that would not talk to his computer before.
Return machine to mate and he is happy! His daughter thinks that the machine is flying compared to what it was. As far as I am concerned, I'd rather watch paint dry than wait for a program to open in Windwoes! They are happy, that is the main thing. I have machines that are older and of lower spec than his box and they all load and run faster in Linux than his box ever did in Windwoes.

It's most likely just a typical user cluttered PC, & then there is the lack of maintenance & hardware failures, Windows didn't cause that.
Both my W10 PC & laptop zing along with no issues.
Give the guys kids your best puter for a week & then see how well it operates. lol

You have good point, lsemmens. Windows is designed to milk money from ordinary users by forcing them to upgrade non-stop unless the user has some understanding of how to maintain the system.
I am happy with my win10 machines - they are probably 5 years or even older. I don't remember when I upgraded motherboards, added memory and hard drives - was using XP back then and upgraded for Win7.
I don't know why people use Linux if they need only email, internet browsing, office suite and occasional low profile gaming.

Still running windoes 7 on shed computer because workshop program wont run on Windoes 10,
Running Windoes 10 on office/home computer because some programs wont run on Windoes 7, turned windoes 10 Updates off.
I had W10 on my laptop i5 8Gb Ram SSD and it WAS well maintained. A cold boot would take over a minute, re-start, even longer.
Running Linux I can perform a full restart in under 30 seconds. Cold boot even better. Last time I could do anything close to that in the M$ world was when I was running DOS 2.1.
As to the vegan allegory, fair point! If Windows serves you well, and you have no issues, why change? I just got sick of having to fix it after "patch tuesday" every month. I know I could have turned off updates, yada, yada, but there are updates that are designed to fix inherent security issues. If Linux had a larger market share, then we'd also see a surge of nasties targeting that, too. So far all is secure.

Yep same here, 512GB SM951, i7-4790K, Win 7 (I do have Win 10 dual booting, but hardly use that), goes like a rocket and does everything I want.

I find my main Win10 workstation pretty responsive with quite a fast boot time. Held on to Win7 until July last year and haven't regretted upgrading. That's not to say I find Win10 that much better than Win7, but I need it for software compatibility. I still have all historic main versions of Windows on VM for some old software. I found the control panel "improvements" in Win10 quite frustrating until I found the "Master Control" option. This makes accessing basic functions like 'Device Manager' and network adapter settings much easier.
I also have a Linux file server and two Linux workstations that all run like Swiss watches. One of the Linux workstations is a media centre that gets internet abused regularly. Have only recently started using the KDE Plasma desktop which I find very modern-looking. At least as good as Win10, if not nicer.

I run windoze because I don't want to fk around with linux and compatibility issues and I wouldn't use mac if you put a gun to my head.
Not saying I love it but windoze is what the world uses and it's less mucking around than the alternatives.
I am on windoze 7 and I don't have any problems with it like used to be common in the past. For what I do it's reliable, straightforward and works with everyone elses documents and files.
You obviously haven't used a UNIX (Mac) system then... If you want ease of use (No Drivers, No DLL files, No Hassles) you would use a Mac
I have been on a Mac now for 9 years, i started on a Windows 10 machine last week, what load of farking around and bloatware
Keep an old Win7 Laptop for Automotive Diagnostic software and that is about all it is ever opened for
But even then, i have to chase down drivers and .dll files for running new software and usb adaptors

I dual boot all my machines (7 ATM) with either W7 or 10 and mint but am at the point of ditching windoze completely due to bloat and updates breaking things/re-setting MY settings without my permission on a regular basis, maybe time to use a VM to run lightroom
I could not imagine running an older/slower machine, especially a laptop which is by design crippled, running W10, i have better things to do than wait half a day for a lappy to load the bloat that is W10, give me mint or W7 anyday
just timed my dell laptop booting w10 - 27 seconds to login screen, 8 seconds of that is bios self test......
so 19 seconds from cold is not bad.....
using fast start/hibernation (on by default in w10) - 14 seconds from cold, with same 8 seconds of bios self test.
all bios self test disabled - 7 seconds, add a couple of seconds to login with fingerprint and under 10 seconds from a cold start........
yes, it has an m.2 sata drive for windows and 16 gb ram.....
how does hibernate in linux work for you ?
