Looking for a friend i was told died last year

Been searching online and on Au Gov websites for Births, Deaths and Marriages, can't seem to find verification.

Can someone point me in the direction of a reliable place that registers all Deaths?

Good luck. I have spent 4 Years trying to trace a cousin in New Zealand.
Even the Charities say it's easier to find someone in Third World Countries than Australia / New Zealand.

I have a look in every paper to see if my name is there every morning ! haven't found it yet ?

I believe you must go into the registry office in your state with proof that your related to that deceased person before they give out any info.. Give them a ring and inquire.

Yeah, depends on the circumstances surrounding the death as well, just been through this with the Vic coroners office wrt my ex partner (defacto) of some 25years ago ; as I raised 'our daughter' (not paternally mine), I had to get her to confirm with the coroners office that I was actually 'family', and then and only then would they release case details to me.

20 years ago literally every death would have a death notice in your capital cities main newspaper. These days there are hardly any despite the huge population increases since then.

It might be worth doing a Facebook search for their name, many deaths are announced on social media these days.

There isn't anywhere that publicly registers all deaths. I have historic registers up until 1985.

Looked in all the obvious places

My only port of call is to message the persons brother, but this will be an awkward request/conversation to have.

I had a good friend come to my house and tell me of this person's death only last week, yet the death happened last September.
Neither my friend, myself and now other friends can find a single thing to back up what we have been told.

I just found it interesting that there wasn't a definitive register

Especially as we have an Age, Location, Full Name to search with

As you’ve found, there is no public database that lists all deaths, nor is there an easy way to verify a death. On the flip side, there is also no public database that lists all births, marriages, etc.

Depending on what state and/or city you think the person died in, there are publicly run burial search websites that provide locations where peoples are buried/cremated/memorialised/etc. Many cemeteries and crematoriums also run their own. If you find the person on one of these sites it would be a good indication that have passed

depends where you live, you can try the funeral homes in that vicinity that you think may have had the service, councils also keep records of cemetaries, so again you would have to know where etc.
