Some satelltie finders may come with a battery pack so you can power the LNB & sat finder without attaching a STB.
Pretty much this is what i did for my first setup, all i had was the sat finder, stb and dish.
Mount your dish onto a perfectly vertical pole, I used a concrete umbrella base first off just so it was closer to the ground to make it easier to maneuver and move between sats to see what was about up there.
Connect the LNB side of the sat finder to the LNB, and the REC side to the STB. Crank up the gain control on the finder so it's squealing then back it off until it just stops.
Now set the elevation (vertical alignment) using the guage on the side of your dish to 45. Point the dish north and very slowly turn it to the right until the finder starts squaling again. If you have a compass align the dish to 20.5.
After moving the dish right and getting the finder to squeal, again turn down the gain till it just stops, then gently move the dish left/right/up/down in very small increments, the lower you turn the gain the stronger the signal must be to make it squeal, you're aiming to get the best signal.
There are many types of LNB's, you should have a sticker or engravement on yours that says what frequencies it uses. you will need to look for the L.O and enter this value into the STB. Going by the above link the value you are looking for is 10700.
Have you entered the LNB settings into the STB? You will need to enter that 10700 before anything comes up.
You can also check out the sat meter on the STB to see if the box is also seeing the signal.
OK, I forgot you said it was for the IQ.
There are however two types with two leads.
One is a twin LNB with dual polarity outputs. With H and V on each output.
The other is a single LNB with dual polarity outputs. For H and V separately.
So we need to know which you have???
Go back and read post #4.
What TP have you set your STB on? 12367V/27800 ?
That's in the antenna setup.
OK, seems that is the one you need.
Now, the reason for tuning your STB to 12367 V/27800 SR.
The 3 sats close to one another all have the tuning TP of 12407 V.
If you use that, you wont be able to tell which sat you're on.
Where as 12367 V/27800 Al Jazeera is exclusive to C1 and makes it a lot easier to find the right sat.
Do you understand now why you need to do things in a logical order?
What state you in?
I am in Adelaide, if anyone thinks they can help and would like to earn a few easy bucks, let me know!
Or just re-read everything again.
And go step by step.
G'Day Cobbers,
I've been searching and the self install instructions are hard to find unless you pay for them.
All sorts of agreements on quality and inspection of cabling etc.
Not sure if it's mandatory, but you need a phone line for some of the features.
Visiting various forums, I found that self install can cost Zilch to $$$$ depending what's needed and the operator/supervisor you talk to.
You will still need a subscription card for each box.
You need to ring them to activate each box.
So it would appear there is no point in just hooking up to the dish and it all works.
I'll see what more I can find, but that seems to be the nitty-gritty.
If any one has any more info, please let us know with links.
Kindest Regards........
With the standard fox boxes you need to go into the setup menu and input 0611
this then allows you to view the installation menu. You can then view lnb type, signal strength etc.
It should be set to its home transponder,so If you have the correct elevation angle and the pole is vertical then slowly move the dish until the signal level increases.
