    Default Bosch 880 went crazy

    Hello. I'm out of ideas on what to do with this 12 yr old Bosch 880.

    The problem started with battery fault indicator.

    So I went and buy a new battery from a proper alarm shop.

    A few hours after install the new battery, battery fault again.

    I left it alone and a few hours later suddenly it armed by itself. I used the keypad to disarm and then the keypad seems to have hung. Buttons doesn't work and the only thing on the display is the house symbol. No person symbol, no AC symbol, no Off / On symbol, just the house symbol.

    So no choice but to disconnect battery and disconnect AC for a reboot.
    Then connect AC and battery back.

    A few hours later, again armed by itself and hung.
    This time I went to measure the battery voltage when battery is still connected to the panel. Only about 2.6V. Pull the battery from the panel and the battery itself measure 9V

    Then I off / on the AC to reboot the panel.
    Measure the battery points without the battery = 14V
    Measure the AC input = 19V
    Connect back the battery, measure the battery every few mins and notice the voltage 9V keep dropping lower and lower.
    The charging light is off.
    Then at some point the charging light comes on, and slowly charge until 11V
    The charging light will go off again and the battery voltage drop slowly to 8V
    This yo yo cycle will continue for a quite a while, but eventually it'll crap itself, self arm, it may hang the panel sometimes, sometimes didn't hang.

    I think when it gets down to 2.xV the panel will hang.

    It's like something is sucking the battery power ? and eventually the panel will self arm and may hang.

    So now I let the panel run on AC without a battery. There is a fault indicator of course, but it seems to be happy for the last few days no dramas.

    Hope someone can give me a honest opinion is the panel faulty.

    Some similar, like voltage drop. But the other thread didn't mention hang.
    Although i haven't try disconnecting any wiring to isolate, which will be my plan of attack this weekend.

    In normal situation is the charging light suppose to light on all the time ? Or like a yo yo on off on off ?

    Do a charging circuit test, minimum. If there's a short on the panel or something, it may take the voltage low enough to cause lockup

    From what your have explained and those voltages seem ok, maybe a faulty board.
    Seems like an issue with 18v AC power then running on battery and going flat.
    The charging light globe will generally light up when charging the battery, the brighter the light the more charge it is doing. Most of the time it will just be a faint off and on glow.
    The alarm arming itself is a default programming start up procedure. Seems like it is losing all power then some power comes back on, which makes the alarm come back on armed.

    Silly question but have you confirmed battery polarity is correct with meter and wiring correct? (+) battery output on panel is going to (+) on battery

    @joelau007 - How long does one continue to flog a dead horse ? Are you still watching a 12 year old TV set ? Are you still using a 12 year old Mobile phone ? What you need to do is at a minimum upgrade the main panel and keypads, test the rest of the system to see what works or also needs upgrading and get someone in that knows what they are doing.

    @wotnot
    What's the correct way to test charging circuit ?

    @secure
    Red and black cable looks correct

    @bss904
    Quite close, I watch the same TV for 11 years. Anyway trying to make this last as long as I can, not the right timing for this type of expense.

    Red and black may look correct but have you measured the voltage on the battery leads for correct voltage polarity and same on new battery terminals.

    @secure
    The multimeter is showing +ve and -ve correct

    Over the last few days, what I have done,
    1) Disconnect the siren and screamer, measure battery = 13V
    2) Leave it for 1hr. Battery still 13V no change.
    3) Proceed to connect the siren. Battery drops very slowly, takes 1 day to drop from 13V to 12V
    4) Leave for another day, battery is at 11V
    5) Leave it further..... then battery fault triggered. Measure battery = 10V
    Throughout all these test days, I never see the charging light even comes on.
    Ok I have to declare surrender. Something has to be stuffed with the charging circuit.

    Will have to get some quotes on a Bosch 2000 or 3000
    Typically when changing panel, do I have to change the PIR sensors ? I have a number of Paradox PIR and they are still reliable. Just don't want to be oversold things that I don't need to change.

    Would at least change Panel and keypad. Maybe new power plug pack. Existing PIR's should be alright if you think they are working ok.

    Thanks.

    From my research so far, at least I'll have to change,
    - panel
    - keypad
    - wireless / remote control
    - power pack, kind of optional, old model TF008-A and new TF008-B exactly the same output. But will buy one anyway with the trouble I'm having.

    In fact the more I read about these things the more confident I can swap this over myself. Electrical knowledge all coming back to me.
