Also,check out :
I'm also interested in getting one..
Looks like it would make a handy finder...bear in mind though, the picture is a bit misleading, you could only see FTA channels in the clear..ie the shopping channel on C1.
The Satlook Micro is also a good meter in this class and price range...
Does the trimax show on screen the satellite you are pointing at.
Fysher
It gets the satellite info from the NIT, and indicates which satellite you are pointing at. It will give you a picture on clear/FTA channels.
Hi I Used that
its good if u r new to satellite install. if not dont buy ,buttons r not good very sticky very poor quality make , very hard to read signal level on sun light ,u cant null the Lnbf proberly. I got one just for fun . I dont use them .try to buy annalog one like promax They r the best
Hey guys I am looking at the SM-2500 Digital Satellite Meter (Trimax)
I didn't wanna start another thread, is this unit a good one to buy or can anyone recommend a better similar unit, Thanks
Any good meter you can recommend champ, bear in mind I am just a beginner LOL.
These are quite a reasonable 'entry-level' satellite meter.... around $1K
If you ever intend to do Foxtel/Austar installations (eg: as a contracted installer... and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone) you'll need an 'approved' sat meter, like the Unaohm S22A Plus, etc. around $2.5K
I have used many meters in the past it all really depends on what you want to get out of it. and the price range. The Promax Explorer And The Promax MK2 are great Machines But they are too expensive for what they do. The IKUSI DSA-500 unit on the other hand is also a great unit but for almost Half the price of the Promax.
I own an ikusi DSA-500 unit it works great and gives you extremely accurate measurements ( Mer, PreBer, PostBer, N/M, S/N ). as most meters do you can take logs and print them out on your computer The price is around 5 Grand.and Yes it is Foxtel Approved.
Now The Downside is that it is not a REALTIME machine.
You may also want to consider a meter that is DVB-S2 and they are not cheap. so it all boils down to what you want to achieve from the meter.
For myself its all about the NUMBERS. it is not necessary for me to have a picture on the meter, but it is handy
mtv is correct in that laceys TV have a good range of meters.

Even if I had the money, this question will soon explain why I wont be buying one.

Using the K.I.S.S (Keep it Simple for Stupid me) what that means when your using such a devise?

when looking for a Particular satellite a realtime unit will show the satellite signal as you pass through it( when moving the dish ).
You would ideally have to Pause for a few seconds while moving the Dish to see if you have locked on to the satellite with a unit that is not realtime.
you could always use a beeper between the dish and the unit. i also use one.

I have one of these meters... it does Signal and quality in bar graph also shows sign in db C/N as well as BER
Its a good little meter... great for squeezing every tiny bit of signal out of your dish when your peaking the dish.. I have 3 things I dont like it about it
1) its hard to find a weak satellite with it.. mainly because if its below threshold you dont get any indiction at all
2) the spectrum analyzer is useless... refresh rate too slow
3) You cant turn the speaker down
overall thou for the money its a good meter
A Modulation Error Rate (MER) is also very important for the quality of signal. a Pre Bit Error Rate (pre Ber)and a post Bit Error Rate (pos Ber) will also let you know of the quality of The incoming signal received. It is important that a signal analyzer can measure these numbers as accurately as possible.
for a professional installer yeah probably need all of those things.. having said that.. if your trying to get line up a non-dvb Carrier then any of the dvb meters are useless and the only way to go is just a standard speccie.
for a hobbist like myself I dont give a ratarse about MER and Pre BER, I can get an extra .5 db from having this meter and thats all I need
For hobbiest you may think they are important but as long as the receiver I use says it has good sig and quality then it's happy and as a result I am happy. I've only ever used a $20 sat finder and I find they are very good for picking up even the weakest signal. Once you have got your dish aligned, do the thumb press test on all 4 sides of the dish and the lnb skew and you're laughing
