He's using 2 x 3.7v lipo cells connected in parallel (1S2P), and a DC>DC boost converter to get the required 6volts (and it doubles as a charge controller) : I imagine he went that way because 3.7volts (even in parallel) won't work (gun needs 6volts)
The battery pack you pulled down appears to be a Ni-MH type pack at a guess.... and 4.6v x 2 == 9.2volts
What the guy has done in the video, is the easiest/cheapest/quickest option.
