Possibly a problem with the TV. Does the ON/OFF Button on the TV work normally ?
Hi all,
First of all thanks again to all who responded to my last thread about Power consumption.
It seems my ignorance knows no bounds, please help me with this if you can.
My TV a Palsonic has a remote where the on/off button is not working properly.
It used to work from my bed so I could turn the TV on without getting out of bed, a distance of about 10 feet.
Now I have to hold the remote in front of the led light almost touching it before the TV turns on. I need to keep the button on the remote depressed for a very long time before the TV starts.
As it happens I have 2 identical remotes and both react the same. All the other buttons work perfectly.
I have recharged the original batteries and have used other rechargeables in the second remote, results are just the same.
I am beginning to suspect the receptor in the TV is failing.
Any advice would be welcome, TIA
Luv and kisses to all
Cheers

Expanding on my previous post.
Once the TV is on, can you turn it off, using the remote, from your bed ?
If not, can you use a camera, mobile phone camera etc, to check the remotes on/off button is actually transmitting ?

may be you could just replace the batterys they are most likely gone with the wind ????
Rechargeable batteries are typically lower voltage than regular, 1.2v compared to 1.5v if my memory serves, maybe try a set of non-rechargeables in the remote as a first step?
Also, I've never had a Palsonic but on our various TVs there are several other buttons on the remote that also 'wake-up' the TV, the channel up/down button and the source button to name a couple, maybe try some other buttons to turn it on?
And lastly, is it a smart TV? My Samsung smart TVs can be completely controlled via the SmartThings app on a mobile device or PC (from anywhere in the world with an internet connection I believe, although I don't really see the point beside making family members think the house is haunted).
Agree rechargeable batteries are not recommended for low current devices such as a remote - switch to alkaline.
If that doesn't fix it then I'm going with post #2... having 2 identical remotes doing the same thing with all the other buttons working perfectly suggests it's a fault inside the TV.

Or having two remotes with the same age batteries, means change batterys firsts and use alkaline

I missed this first read. The Led Light is not the IR Sensor.
It will be an almost black 6mm perspex circle elsewhere.

Does the TV turn on automatically wken the power point is turned on?
If so, get a remote control power plug and use that.

Standby power-supply might be goofy ; if it's an older set, it's likely to be a 5volt supply ~ if that supply rail drops to 4volts or less. the standby LED will still illuminate, but the IR receiver will have difficulty.
What model of Palsonic is it?

I must be really inept, sorry.
I have turned camera on, I have tried with camcorder, pointed both remotes at both front and back of phone, results all the same - four fifths of f***all, no change.
Both remotes will mute, change channel and volume but will not turn the bugger on or off !!!
When are you coming up this way again?
Show me what I am doing wrong and bring some recommendations for a bigger unit that I should get if this one is stuffed.
Luv and Kisses as always

You point the remote at the camera on your phone and press any button.
You should see the flashing light coming from the remote on your phone screen.
Press the power button on the remote - if the flash is on the phone screen the button is working.
