Looks like I will need to make a trip up to visit.
    I will organise it soon.

Now that my shit fight is over with Housing, I have a couple of questions maybe you can answer.

If the secondary/standby PSU is stuffed what will it cost to get it replaced and is it worth it ?

As I told you earlier I want to get a bigger TV as soon as I can afford it, what's your advice, size, make etc ?

    Thanks mate

    Cheers

Normally only a few capacitors in the power supply. So parts cost is cheap.

Given your budget, I would keep an eye on the Aldi Specials.

    Yes, I agree.

A German friend swears by Aldi (a German chain store ....Aldi have thousands of stores in Europe and the brand is extremely well known and respected over there).

He has a huge ALDI Bauhn (their own brand name) wide screen TV and it works extremely well. Beautiful picture with good sound also.

As you know I am housebound and Aldi do not do home delivery which is why I can no longer do any shopping with them. There must be thousands of people in my situation and we all miss out.

    Bloody sad

Sister has three of them, varying sizes, the small 32" is OK....ish but the 40 and 50 are IMHO the worst picture and sound POS with the slowest buggy remotes I have ever had the displeasure of setting up.................you couldn't give me one

The picture is good(for the kitchen) no complaints.

Let me know when you are ready to buy one from Aldi and I will buy it for you and deliver and set up.

As for your current TV, I would need to take it back to my workshop to look at.
It is a 3 hour return trip for me. That means you would be without it for a few days and no guaranteed out come.
I will go over to the Block n Tackle Brewery at Kincumber while I am up there.

Resch, thanks for your kind offer. Can you please get me a 32 inch or bigger TV. You know the amount of room I have and I will go with whatever you get me.

I plug in a WD streaming player which has a video cable (white, yellow and red), which I play USB stick downloaded films through, it would be really good if I can continue to use it with the new TV. The palsonic refuses to play downloads through its on board USB slot.

I see Lane Cove Aldi is opening soon with any luck they might have opening specials on TVs.

Anyhow, let me know how much I am up for and I will do a bank transfer to you

Cheers and good health from Ma.

If my memory serves me correctly, you wanted to mount your TV on the wall between the door and the external wall.
I will look for at least 40 inch.
No TV's available at the moment.

That was subject to Housing installing a power point. They refused to do this as power is already present and only one power point per room is necessary.

So can you please pick up a 32 inch that can stand on my desk where my current one is.

Sorry to mess you around like this.

    Ta muchly.

Reschs If I ever make it over your way, or you ever hit anywhere near where I am (lower mid north SA) I'll buy you a beer! I'd love to help Ma out, but I'm a few more miles away!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

If someone could pick it up and inspect it for you, there are a Lot of really Cheap, brand name, used TV's that go on Gumtree and the like.

I have picked up a few, a Panasonic, LG and a Sony dirt cheap. Only thing wrong with them was the people wanted to get monster sets and no where for the old one and one of them wanted some specific plug it didn't have so bought another. The most I paid was $80 for a 46" and they have all been real good. Have one on the back verandah, one in the Daughters room and one on a swivel bracket thing in the kitchen.

They are one thing that you can get good brands, not very old, cheap and available nearly anywhere. They have the same resale value as used Toilet paper these days as everyone seems to be flogging them and they are NOT is short supply.

One power point per room. Yeah, that's what this place was mainly like. I think I have put in a dozen new drops so far and back to backed about half a dozen from one room straight through the wall into the room behind. Minimum of 2 in every room now and the lounge, dining and media rooms all have 6. When we redid the kitchen last year and had the walls out, I ran 11 Doubles. The island bench has 5 doubles alone. Mrs complained about having to run leads in the laundry so there is a point on each wall in there now on 2 different circuits and phases so the dryer has it's own and the washing machine and everything else have their own.

Funny thing was there were Coax outlets for the TV antenna everywhere including 1 in each bedroom and at least 2 in the other rooms. Often on their own with the power point on the furthest wall! There is coax everywhere in the ceiling but we don't use it since before the antenna blew down having Cable. Don't know if I can feed that to all the outlets, I'm not very interested in TV.

My last house had a power point on nearly every wall in the place which was great. 4 Circuits just for the power in the house. Had 8 all up for the garage, pool room, BBQ area and the workshop. I could have lit the pole up out the front if I loaded all the circuits that place had. Literally.

1 Power point per room is something from the 60's and just not adequate these days. My first house was like that and every outlet had a 6 spot power board or 2 to accommodate everything. Pain in the arse!

If you want a new TV, don't just wait for the aldi ones to come up, You might find a good brand right round the corner from you. The Local Vinnie's warehouse also seems to have about a dozen or so every time we go there for cheap.

I am keeping an eye out for anything suitable. Given Ma's situation, I am giving preference for something with a warranty.
That said, I will not reject a good deal. Ultimately it's his decision.

    Hi all,

At prices like George just quoted I will be happy to not have warranty,,,, but it must have a working remote ,,,,, preferably one that works with the same TV
