Look for auction houses in your vicinity, see what they have.

Didn't know used computers were so cheap. Got me talked into it.
Even the misses agrees and that's good cos she's got the purse.
So in relation to i5 or i7, is there much difference in performance with each generation ?

Just be careful, I've seen people pay twice as much for a second hand sack truck that they could buy brand new from elsewhere.

Look at the minimum system specifications the CAD program requires.

im a amd fanboy but i must admit, on paper the intels look to be ahead a bit on all around performance, altho the dearer ryzens pack a punch too.

I agree Phil, AMD have always been better bang for your buck when new. Second hand, not always so.

i avoid intel like covid 19, only as i have a bad history with bent pins, as i rely on others fingers, it always ends in tears, amd no problem
i have a new trick, get some tape & make a reverse loop, stick it to the top of cpu to drop it in the socket, then pull tape off lol.

I've had heaps of intels with bent pins. I just straighten them with an olfa knife.

Gently peel it off maybe. That's one of the first lessons you learn with SMD boards repairs, never use sticky tape on ICs, it can generate quite large static electricity when you rip it off.

I think I was thinking what both of your were thinking, but I was just dodging... LOL.

Many years ago, when I was still doing TV repairs, I ordered a video processing chip from a particular supplier that arrived stuck to the invoice with sticky tape, not even in an antistatic bag. I rang them and told them I wasn't happy about it, and they agreed it was bad practice and agreed to replace the chip with a new one. They actually sent the chip and told me not to bother returning the one I already received.

But they probably just got a chip they had stickytaped to a piece of cardboard with a bunch of others anyway.

Damage from static may not be evident at first either. It doesn't have to kill the chip outright, but it can perforate the substrate and the damage is cumulative and will shorten the life of the component.

Yeah sorry @loopyloo I get a bit OCD about sticky tape on ICs, and touching their contacts with fingers etc. LOL

As long as the hardware has not changed (motherboard / cpu) process should detect this was the last registered PC for the key and activate
