I'm guessing No 2 is a thermal sensor to detect whether the gas is alight.
Hello all,
Never ends does it
Someone had left a Patio Gas Heater out on the road, looking in fair nick!
As it had little wheels on its base, i took it home - 600mtrs... LOL!
And surprise surprise, it doesn't' work.! And the 9kg bottle is nearly full...
The ON/OFF knob was corroded solid in place (stuck on HIGH). I took it all apart cleaned it up and now it turns/push's in fine.
What i need to ask is: 'What is inside #5?"
It is Aluminum. Very tight fit and started to burr when i tried to undo it. I was going to heat it up (as Ally would expand quicker than the Brass?), but i don't know if i would damage what is inside - which i assume is a sensor/solenoid of some sort.
The push ignition 'thing' is working fine - nice spark!
#1 is spark. Works fine. Got a couple of shocks, lol
# 2 I don't know what it is?? Is connected to the Dump Switch and Aluminum thing.
The Ignition and this thing is about 5mm from the gas outlets.
#3 Is Ignition.
#4 Is Dump Switch. I have cleaned the contacts and it 'seems' to work ok when turned upside down etc on Ω readings...
#5 Must allow the gas to flow - but from Cold???
#6 Gas pipe inlet.
#7 Push in to Turn Gas On with High and Low option shaft knob.
So does the initial HV of the Ignition switch - fly open - what is inside the Ally connection and must 'somehow' leave it open for the gas to flow - but close it when the heater falls over...?
Thanks,

It's broken anyway. so force #5 out, and see if it runs without it. i.e. block the opening after you've removed the item so the gas goes where it should. If it works then, you can either buy a new #5 or leave the opening blocked off. You could always check to see if the main jet is not blocked.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

no5 is part of the thermal coupling no2
when gas is on it heats up and keeps gas running
when flame goes out it cools down and shuts gas off.

Exit stage left....
Well, fandtm666 got it.
I rang a mate who has one and he basically told me I'm an idiot!
To make it work - one has to turn the knob to High - AND - press it inwards as you use the ignitor! Once going you can release the knob, leaving it in the High position...
The gas bottle is new one and full.
So I'm assuming after the original gas has ran out (and the knob being in the High position), it has been unused for years as the Knob was truly stuck/corroded in place.
Even in the vice and using grips it wouldn't turn push or anything. After dismantling and cleaning it now turns with ease.
The original owners must have decided to use it this Winter. Put a new gas bottle in and because there was no gas flowing, it wouldn't ignite (even thought the knob is on High), due to the thermal switch not opening, preventing the gas to flow...!
Thankyou for everyone's help.

I haven't used one for years , no need for one in QLD lol , but I seem to recall they used to shut off if there was any sort of problem with the oxygen ratio as well , like running it in an enclosed space. Might account for one of its features.
