You're not planning on taking that big cruiser on the Strzelecki are you?
Be sure to check for closures before you leave, currently flooding in the Innamincka area.

I'm planning on heading north to QLD via Birdsville and Innamincka. If I were driving a car I'd have no problems. However, 'cause I'm brain damaged (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it) and am insane, I'm gonna do it on a road bike! If anyone has had experience of the Birdsville & Strzlecki tracks on a road bike, can you advise what tyres and pressures you found works well. I might be insane, but I'm not stupid, I will have at least one support vehicle, but, my intent is to be as independent as I can.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

A road bike on the Strzlecki track, L Semmens?
Before you've gone very far, you are going to wish that you were a woman!
I'm well aware of potential conditions on the Strzlecki (which, BTW, is kept in better condition these days owing to the likes of Moomba) and Birdsville tracks. I am aware of the current closures and hope that the roads are a little better off in a month or so. Most of those sorts of roads tend to require a little bit of common sense and ground clearance. From my years of driving the Stuart Hwy before it was sealed the real issue is corrugations and rocks, coupled with Bull dust which turns to sloppy mud when it rains.

Good luck then, the Strzelecki is deep sand in the dry, your cruiser wont do that, unless you put it on a trailer behind a 4WD.

Thanks for that TIny. I'm not doing much of the Strzlecki by the looks of things as I'll be heading east from Innaminkca

Don't forget you'll use a shit load more fuel in the soft sand.

Thanks hoe, I am aware of that, I have which is VERY impressive! Fro the worst part of the journey I'll also have 4wd backup. I've just found who has done what I'm planning on the same bike! I'm working my way through his videos now to see what I can learn!
I anyone on here knows him, I'd LOVE to talk to him!!!!! PLEEEEEEEREEEEZE!

id be fitting some dual purpose tyres and taking a battery powered compressor.....
Exactly what I'm planning to do, Hoe. The biggest issue is going to be finding dual purpose tyres for my bike. I've got Peter Stevens in Adelaide looking for some for me right now. Somehow, I think I'm just going to have to use road tyres and pray. I'm also going to take the old tyres and tubes as spares, just in case I do blow one out in the middle of nowhere. As to the pump, already packed. The bike is booked in for a thorough service and new tyres next Monday, so, here's hoping that they can find something suitable. The major issue out on some of these outback roads will be tyre pressures. I've come across a bloke who rode his Boully (almost identical to mine) to Cameron's corner which is bloody close to where I intend to travel, and have sent him a message, but have yet to receive a reply.
