How could so many vote for such right-wing populism?

I'll be pushing up the daisies in ten ~ it will be my grand-daughters that get to see the real horrorshow -- this... this is just a distraction, I always thought so ever since Reagan got the top job (Nixon was wacky, but in another way) -- my buddy in TX reckons he'd vote for Chuck Norris in a heart-beat ; that sums it up for me =)

Nevada is only 75% counted and Biden leads by a hair thin 0.6%, coming down from much higher yesterday.
If there is a reason to contest the result it will be exactly here. Why is the count so slow for example.
This is a sparsely populated region so only a few thousand, maybe even in the hundreds here could make or break a president on a recount or an attempt to call fraud.
The other leans are mostly counted so I don't expect any changes, except Pensilvania still only at 89%. Biden has dramatically improved there but still 3% are needed for a blue flip.

We have a population of 50% below average intelligence. No different than Venezuela or any other crappy place.
These folks are susceptible to brainwashing. They like shiny stuff like red MAGA hats. If they are told the other guy is a commie or pedophile they buy into it without question. Then they hang out with like minded folks because suddenly their best freind of 20 years is a commie who is voting for a pedophile.
It is pretty simple, cults are formed the same way.

So many great words in the English language, and we have to use these ones ad infinitum.

I don't normally see the propaganda from this forums very own Trump Proud Boy (aka george65), however I can see from your quote RTD that he is still here making incorrect assumptions about others. Our resident neo-fascist pushes his agenda like his own views are unequivocal facts, and like the rambling local drunk at the pub who leans so far to one side that he is but a soft breeze from tipping over, he simply can't engage in any reasonable debate.
Trump is an idiot. So is Biden. The US Presidential race was headed by an actually elephant and donkey, neither of whom deserve to be elected to such a position.
When the likes of Piers Morgan - a life-long Trump supporter - describes his "victory" speech as 'unbelievable, 'appalling', 'deeply irresponsible' and an 'absolute disgrace', then it doesn't take blind Freddy to see that if Trump loses this election is was not because Biden was any good, but simply because the American public saw that Trump was so horribly bad.

And the horror of all this that there are still people in Australia pushing for us to become a republic with an Australian President.
Ok, some justify this with "Well it won't be like the American system, the President will be appointed by the federal parliament." I say, "how long will it be before enough people want to be able to vote for the President directly?" and the change occurs.
I think all those pushing for Australia to become a republic should be required to watch a replay of this American election before they get a vote in any referendum.
Ditto about not seeing what george65 posts, unless somebody quotes him but maybe it might comfort him that it looks like even if Biden wins, the Dems will not have control of the senate, so Biden is all by himself as the Reps can block all his decisions unless they are of executive order, which I am quite sure he will not misuse anywhere near as much has Trump has.
I heard a short speech from Biden today and I was impressed, yes it was a bit touchy feely about becoming united again, blah blah but it felt rather refreshing and comforting to listen too after all the non-stop hate speech and attacks I have heard oozing of Trump's second anus.
...waiting now for the sad and repetitive TDS comments

Reality is a bit more explainable here in Australia.
If you remember the referendum there were four kinds of vote.
Monarchists
People who don't fix what ain't broke.
Republicans who wanted a popular presidential vote
Republicans who wanted a state elected president.
The two republican groups could not agree on a format so their protest vote tipped the referendum to "no change".
The republicans either did not trust the plebeians to elect their own president and there were those who were offended when they realised they were those plebeians.
Reality is Australia has long been a democratic republic in every way except for the face on the $5 note.
The president of the Senate could have been handed the royal quill to sign off the bills and the governor general demoted to chief gardener.
So no real change there.
All that is really needed is to define what powers the position holds, how long they hold office, how to elect them and how to remove them.
I think it's a matter of defining some important points. Like you don't want a dictator (like Putin), you don't want an unrepresentative (like Penny Wong) or a popular idiot (like Trump).
Setting limits and defining the office. Define the powers and processes.
When most of the people are happy with the changes and they are documented, it goes to a yes or no referendum.
Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

Weren't they both from socialist parties?.....never mind, it doesn't matter.
Biden will probably be OK as long as they keep him on the written script. Trumps problem was that he couldn't help spontaneously shooting his mouth into his foot.
I'll miss the humour and stupidity of his utterances...

In name, but quite different in philosophy.
The word 'socialism' finds its root in the Latin sociare, which means to combine or to share.
For that matter has not the Australian government recently adopted some socialist traits? Like paying the employers the wages of their employees who were stood down due to lock down? and so on.
