My road trip is 5 km out, turn around and come home, guess where i live?
Have put off our yearly road trip some where in Oz until next year
I'm planning on heading north on Sunday, so may well be somewhat irregular here over the next week or so, If any of you in QLD want to consider a meet up somewhere. I'll be involved.

Nah! I'm clean from a clean state. it's only you lot on the Eastern seaboard that have the pox! Why my daughter wants to live in QLD is anybody's guess, but that's where she is! I'm not worried about getting in, it's getting out again that worries me.

You're right, Al, you aren't that lucky, I'm sitting in my grandson's bedroom in Brisvegas after evicting him. He's now harrassing me to teach him how to pull an old computer apart. I'll post a brief overview of my trip a little later on!

I've never seen the Aliens at Wauchope?
Though that doesn't look like it's on the route?
One of those pictures looks close to me.

Interesting trip, but a long way around to travel from SA to Brisbane while avoiding NSW, have you considered the Birdsville Track for the route back?
Some unsealed but in good condition when I travelled it a few years ago by car. Saw a number of motorbikes along the way.
My intial plan was to do Birdsville, Innaminca and then to Brissy, but the people I was travelling with had to pull out for various reasons. Then they had rain up around there. Those roads turn to sh** real quick and then take months to "recover". After having my bike go to "sleep" on me a few times on this trip, I have resolved not to take any risks on dirt until I have support, The first time it fell over was on loose sand and my load landed on my foot. I nearly badly twisted my knee and ankle then (knee was sore for a few days and I was limping on my ankle for a few hours). It took me a few minutes just to get my foot out from under the load, if it were the bike itself I'd have been stuck! So far I've needed help to lift the bike each time, so, until I'm certain I can pick it up by myself, it's not worth the risk,.

yeah, with the rain we just had you would be pushing your luck in a 4WD for the next 10 days and there is another cold front on the way.
I'm south of the border in one of the typical tourist destinations if your passing through this way.

Is it the weight of the bike or the luggage that stops you picking it up?
I have only experimented with picking up my Harley ( thankfully!!) but if done the right way, it should be no trouble picking up any bike.
There is definitely an easy way and a wrong way!
My Fireblade had those things like skateboard wheels on the side that were supposed to help keep the thing off the fairing if it went down. Perhaps some of those strategically placed on your bike may help you from getting trapped under the thing if it did slide out from under you on a dirt or wet road?
Being pinned down by the bike sounds Fking Dangerous when you are in the middle of no where.
Looks like one name for them at least is Frame sliders. I think they were called something else back then and they looked more like skateboard wheels than the various types I see now.
Anything that provided some space between your foot or leg and left you some wiggle room, literally , sounds like it would be a good thing.
Looks like you are having an incredible adventure and I hope you complete it with no real problems and it brings you the peace and Contentment I think you are looking for.
I'm already content and peaceful. It's more of fulfilling a lifelong dream.
I did try picking the bike up before I left home, but it was not "properly" on its side. I am yet to say that I can't pick it up, but am certainly being more cautious about how I park it from now on. I may invest in some crash bars which will protect the side a little better. I'll wait and see for now.
NSW is certainly on my list so will attempt to meet up with anyone who's interested there. Currently am on the edge of Ipswich, so if there is anyone in the Brisvegas Goldie area, I am partial to a meet and greet there! We found a German bierhall today at the Top of Mt Tamborine which we intend to visit properly before I leave town.

Castle Glen has a shop on Tambourine, but if you're following the New England highway south then their distillery at The Summit (near Stanthorpe) is a bit of a look.
Down the road a little I usually stop at The Bramble Patch for some ice cream and pancakes. Bugger the kids, that shit is for me.
What's your proposed route?

For now I'm spending a few weeks around Brissy, Goldie area, then up the coast to catch up with friends and family all spread out between here and Cairns. Up to the Tablelands to see friends there, then across to Darwin to see Son and friends there. After that, if the Borders are open, I might come back down through Brissy and on to Sydney, again catching up with friends all the way through NSW.
