A new smart TV would be my choice.
HI guys
I have an old Kogan t.v on it's way out. I want to start watching youtube, netflix, etc in the Lounge but I am on a tight budget, am not sure which way to go.
A. Buy a internet t.v (Lan/WIFI) with all the bells and whistles.
B. Buy the cheapest possible dog box t.v and add a Android box.
Which would be the best most usable way to go for playing all media formats ...looking to spend ~$500 if possible?
Thanks

They both don't seem to have internet, not worth it without as I gotta add android box. $600 is my max and that's high, anything with discount coupons?
I forgot to mention that I can't go above 50" due to small wall and the old one is wall mounted so that's where it's gotta go, any better value with a 50" telly?
thanks

Err, all Smart TV's have rj45 and wifi.....
Not much point having Android and streaming services without internet connectivity

Go to an Aldi store early Saturday morning (Sept 19th)
and get your self a Android TV 58" for $579.
For that price you get size, UHD, Android, built in chrome cast.
You can sideload apps from USB port if required.
Kogan have a 42" android TV for $349 + delivery . As long as you're happy with FHD & don't want 4k, this is about as cheap as you will get.

OP's got a point though - nothing screams out ethernet/wifi connectivity, which is unfortunate for those who don't construe 'smart tv' as necessarily having/needing some sort of internet/network connectivity.
Even on TCL's home website, you have to get into the user/setup guide before you see anything like...
I hadn't actually noticed they'd dropped that from 'specifications' before... once upon a time ethernet port/speed & wifi band/speed used to be tabled ; must be considered 'deprecated nomenclature' these days - just say smart teevee instead =)
The Android TV experience is much better than a cheap Android box.
The only thing close is an nvidea shield..
I still prefer an Android tv.....

Get an Apple TV for around $200.
You don't need any other apple devices or become a member of the Apple Sect. It has all the apps you need, you can change zones with a DNS spoofed service like getflix, watch live TVs from around the world.
I have had many media boxes over the years and this shits on them all. In my opinion.

Always can get an android TV box for less than $50. I use two boxes for 3 years now without any problems, picked up from gearbest for $34.
If no fancy stuff needed these boxes have everything you need.

On the question of Android TV ver Android box as far as I know in our market Sony, Hisense and Bauhan (Aldi) have Android OS. I bought the Sony mainly for its picture quality.. the downside is that it wont let you install apps which are not in the App Store (for the usual reasons) someone mentioned that you can install these by changing in the setting to "developer" Any advise on this is appreciated.
Meantime To be able to use some of these uncertified Apps I bought a Tanix TX6 android box, it works well.

You can install any app that works on android TV.
If its not available via google play store direct from your TV,
keep it simple, just copy apps to a usb stick.
Put usb into TV and install apps using a file manager app (which you should also install to TV)
