    Default Digital COAX cable connection

I've noticed a few devices use a COAX Digital connection. It appears to just be an orange RCA socket. My question is, can these cables carry surround sound, and can you actually use a normal RCA lead for them?

    Cheers, Gab

    Default

'S/PDIF is based on the AES3 interconnect standard.S/PDIF can carry two channels of uncompressed PCM audio or compressed 5.1/7.1 surround sound (such as DTS audio codec); it cannot support lossless surround formats that require greater bandwidth'

Like toslink, if you can pass the full digital stream to a dedicated decoder, it can do this.
