    Default Palapa D

Hi everyone - haven't posted for a while but does anybody know what is happening about a likely replacement for the Indonesian satellite, Palapa D. Am aware of a launch failure by the Chinese some months ago but no news regarding a relaunch? Also is there an alternative sat. to watch Indonesian FTA services in Australia (I am located in Rockhampton and currently receive Palapa D on a 2.3 metre mesh dish).

    Thanks.

    From wikiwand ().

"On 31 August 2020, Palapa D was officially declared inadequate for operation after almost ran out of fuel for stationkeeping and all of its transponder services were officially moved to Telkom-4/Merah Putih and BRIsat satellites for broadcasting and data services respectively."

For Telkom 4 transponder information, see .

There are still broadcasts on Palapa , problem is its slightly inclined now, so signals are up and down and pretty unstable

thanks everyone for your responses. Tristen - any information on the Telcom 4 footprint; is it viewable in Australia. I am in Rockhampton Qld with a 2.3 metre mesh dish?

    Cheers

@pc9 can confirm your 2.3M should receive pretty much most of Telkom 4 at 108E though most of it not good to Perth on the 2.7m it got weaker and weaker as they loaded the bird up.

Efarina TV is the easiest to lock. BBS TV also usually loads, better reception has been reported though in Eastern Australia. It should be good if you are in the north

just had a look at the indo channels on iptv.
not all working, along with most Asian countrys.
dont know if its because the sources are unreliable or whether they dont monitor the asian channels as much.

thanks again loyal austechers. Will give Telkom 4 a try at some stage (am battling ill health at the moment so the missus may have to wait a bit).

Understand that the replacement for Palapa D was lost on launch in China a few months ago, but haven't heard about a re-launch.

Hoe - do you know if iptv is available as an app on LG or Samsung smart TVs?

yes, i use an app on my lg smart tv, same app is available on samsung.

    i use duplex iptv app.

you just download app, login to website on pc and enter details from app and upload iptv channel link.

you need to get channels from a provider....

Sorry not been on for a while but a local update on Indo birds. Palapa D is still up there flying a figure 8 but only signal of interest is RCTI and that is on T4. Migration to T4 and up the band away from 5G is complete I guess. Obviously Palapa D is inclined because its low on gas but the remaining signal levels were well below T4 last I looked, low on power as well maybe? Most went to T4 (AKA red and white) and couple went over to the old T3 bird, and Nusantara 1 out east near the AU birds, religious stuff most would not watch.

Of interest a lot of Indo moved to KU starting with China sat 11 which I think was bit of a dud bird, Ku was never popular here because of water absorption losses. Measat 3 a bit west and and SES9 co parked with T4 have most FTA and some pay Indo TV. In these days of sharp beams not much chance of it down south without serious KU band big dishes I guess.

But interesting to note here in heavy rain (that's over 100mm per hour not a shower) on a 70cm toilet lid in the published footprint the Ku only drops a few on the count, That's not a bad effort on a 10 buck LNB. T4 on C band is strong but that kind of rain knocks it around to threshold levels. Quite a turn around to the Aussat K1 days on a 1.8 solid under a thunderstorm with nix. I recall dishes were larger in Darwin than down south to cater for Ku water losses.

Waffle but anyway, when T3 popped most of the banks and ATMs here went down while they found new transponders, because nearly every ATM and branch has a 2 watt C band vsat over it, even the standalone ones along the side of the road. Quite a flap to realign on new birds and reconfigure them all in a hurry all over the country. Bri sat out east with the AU birds carries a lot of bank stuff, infact its owned by the local BRI bank.

As was done in AU back in the day on bearers, porn was pumped through what were PtP links after evening shutdown in the early hours. The same was done when the first Palapa bird was up and Europeans ran the earth stations not locals. Till the Indos found out anyway. But briefly as I recall, the now out of gas D bird has an interesting history, up on the shuttle as B but the kick motor did not work. Floated around till it was recovered by the shuttle as a first along with a Leasat mil bird in similar circumstances, but it was now property of the insurance company so it sat around for ages till refurbed and put up again. Some how the Indos negoed it back, but so much time has passed it took over from C as D.??

Please don't hold me to precise account this historical stuff from memory its only as I recall. Interestingly Nusantara satu (1) seems to be up there but basically unused?

All moved to Unlike Palapa D this satellite is not exactly shining on the southeast + the rollout of 5G makes reception most challenging on a 3 meter.
As "hoe" suggested IP TV via the NBN would be your best friend

Yes saw the last data transponder turn of a couple of days ago so flat as a tack on the spectrum here.

Unfourtunatly a replacement for 113e is at least 12-18months away as Palapa N1 that was supposed to replace Palapa D was destroyed just after launch about 6 months ago. No indication of when or if it was being remanufactured.

Would be interesting to see if there will be a banana beam across Australia on c band or it will be tightened up

There was a ku beam pointed my way that I reported a few years ago. I am thinking that was setup for the Indonesian embassy over here as they were in a bit of a fight with the local council over putting up a 4mt dish in an Afluient suburb here to receive palapa c1 as the signal of the old Satelite was weak here and things were not much better with Palapa D1

Thanks B52 and cmoore for confirming what I guess I already knew. Was aware of the launch failure (see initial post) and Telkom 4 does not tweak at my location (Rockhampton Central Qld).
