Default Any Plumbers or Drainers About?

Need a little advice on installing a new flush pipe from the toilette. The old one was cemented in, but I now have to install one that has a large loose rubber ring.

How do you get it to lock into the connection?

The vertical pipe that runs from the collar at the top, to the right angle bend under the house....

I was told it should "click in", but I can't see where the loose rubber o ring fits in (obviously it's a seal)...unless you wrap it around the down pipe and tuck it into the connection and just push down..
    ....
It WILL fit into the right angle terracotta bend, at the base where there is a recess....

    Poor description I know....

I can get someone to do it, but I like having a crack at this sort of thing myself...

the ring is placed into the top of the recess and then
the pipe or pan is pushed in while on a slight angle to get
the ring to roll with the it as its pushed all the way down
to create the seal and hold it is place.

there are 2 rings that are used a black and a red and in an
old setup where replacements - additions are done you use a red one because
it is a softer ring and rolls easier.

If installing a new pan then a earthenware to pvc adapter is used and a pan collar
is installed to connect the pan.

the reason for the two colours is because black is for sewer and red for storm water
but when installing in old pipe work the red is use due to its softness and less chance
of cracking the earthenware with the pressure of the black ring.

Aaaaaah, I get it....the ring they gave me is black. I'm just using the original PVC pipe (as the old concrete came apart when I took the old pan out. It was wet due to a drain blockage), with a new toilette pan and collar. I'll get the red one and give it a try.

ok so you have the earthenware bend in the ground and the riser is pvc
    ??

if that is the case then the reason it was cemented in was because they did not
use the PVC/VC adapter and the rubber ring you have is useless because the pvc
is smaller OD than the VC.

should be bend - adapter ( spigot adapter ) with rubber ring - pvc riser glued into adapter

mate there is no reason what soever not to just cement it again

place the pvc into the collar making sure it is centered
then using news paper pack around the pvc to about 1/2
way up the collar then just sand and cement it all.
