Default The old Australia Day chestnut

So now that the nation is apparently divided about what the day stands for, can we all agree to float the day to the nearest weekend?

No matter what we think, we can either support local tourism, have fun with the family or just rest. I’m not looking forward to a useless Tuesday off work with dickheads rioting on the left and the right.

May as well keep everyone happy with a three day break.

    So is tradition dead? Why?

Some guys hoisted a flag and had a small ceremony on 26 Jan 1788, (In Sydney, near the present ferry terminal) why on earth, in the big scheme of things, cannot this be honored in some way? Even if it is only with a few drunks playing cricket down the local park!

have to agree this has happened before then companies claimed they had 2 shutdowns instead of one and they could not afford it or the lost production so it was changed back it is like a yoyo with just about as much intelligence as a yoyo has its like the dim wits who claim day light saving rots their curtains

Shut 'em all up. Cancel Australia day all together, no holiday no nothing. then the wingers will have nothing to complain about because it does not exist. Of course real Aussies might feel sad that we can no longer have a game of cricket.

Depends if you spill the "out of time" cows milk on them. THEN they rot.

If anything, daylight savings extends the life of curtains because we get to open them an hour earlier in the morning sun, while we can enjoy them longer open in the evening.
They DO rot, at least those white out types that have a coating to block the light better. This coating crumbles off over the years if they are exposed too long in the sun and they become messy and nasty.
We had to throw them away. Always avoid.

As for Australia day, I am sure it won't go away.
I don't care on what day it is but there should be one.

    Roll on Jan 27.
So much debate about different dates, why not have it on different dates each year like a floating holiday?
Just like Good Friday, it moves around every year but at least we get a long weekend.

Just tell 'em to go f*ck themselves. The latest poll shows only 28% in favour so whining is the only thing they have going for them.

Whatever date, the same 28% will whine about that too. "OH NO!!! That day's Red Spotted Triple Legged Frilled Lizard Day....can't have that."

I see the ABC backed down a bit on the "invasion day" crap after too many complaints, so I guess that's a positive.

We have too many issues, just like the rest of the world, to bother with this garbage IMO.

Change it to 1st of January, as the date for when Australia actually came into being on the 1st of Jan, 1901..

Naaah Bob. Women didn't even have the vote then, so your just opening another can of worms....you will ALWAYS open another can of worms.

Why can't the 28% let the 72% get on with getting through this pandemic and putting the economy and country back together.

Beacuse what i have found over the last few years is people no longer
wake up and think what a great day what can i do.

They now wake up looking for a reason to have the shits and piss ppl of
just for the sake of an argument.

people i know reckon i have become a hermit and introvert which is the opposite
to what i was and that is because id rather not talk or interact with humans for the sake of my sanity.

I hate to tell those who think that us whitefella invaded Australia. It hasn't happened, not in a few lifetimes. Yes Captain Cook "discovered" Australia in 1770 and the Brits "Occupied" it in 1788 from then on all those "invaders" have died, along with the inhabitants at the time. Apart from the immigrants who have arrived in our lifetime, we were all born here! Whitefella is just as much Australian and any Asian, Greek, Italian, Pom, or Aboriginal who were born here. Yes! The Aboriginals can trace their local ancestry back before Settlement in 1788, but, if we go back far enough, even they "invaded" as some time in history.

well said mate , but they convieniently ignore that fact . The abos keep bleating on about how they invented the boomerang - thats a load of crap too , you go to the Anthropology museum in the Phillipines and there are numerous examples of boomerangs , canoes , shields and art who all predate the time that abos invaded this land .
and i have to add - you never hear abos complaining about the billions of $$$$ the govt hands to them every year. for doing nothing!!! As i write this i look out my window and see contractors arrive to mow the lawns for the lazy abo next door - paid for by taxpayers of course.

I don't see why, but that's neither here nor there to me. The 28% will still complain. They don't WANT a day, merely to wallow in guilt that doesn't exist.

Besides the women and the vote would crop up....
